Don't Starve Together

Don't Starve Together

Best food sources each season
Me and my friend have started a proper don't starve playthrough. He is Wilson (because good stats and good access to beard hair) And I am webber (for spider related items)

We've just gotten through the first autumn on berry bush and crop provided crock pot recipes along with spider monster meat and honey nuggets from bee boxes. And I'm getting through winter via ice (thanks to the penguins) and spider given monster meat, because 3 ice and one monster meat is meatballs, and using the icebox and about 60 ice has given me a limitless food supply for winter. We've been giving eggs to the pig king for gold which we've used for weapons.

I just wanted to make sure that so far this is a good food source and what food source we should use for spring and summer?

Also, what is the best easy way to deal with rain, we've disabled giants so theres no deerclops eyebrella.

Anyways, killing bunnys from the caves, killing spiders and killing koalafants works well
Omg Wilson sorry, overwatch is getting to me.

1. It's Wilson, not Winston.
2. Food: Koalefants are excellent for you to stock up on meat from and since you have a webber the spider wars are pretty effective. Overall you sound pretty good on hunger with a stock of monster meat and ice.
3. Rain and heat: Use an umbrella. It's 90% water resistance so majority of hats will grant you immunity plus it gives 120 cooling in summer. Since you turned off giants you're missing out on some of the best anti spring and summer items but umbrella should do. Just remember to keep some nitre on you for endo fires.

Doesn't wood work too? It used to at least

Wood works as fuel too but you need nitre to craft the endos. You shouldn't have an endo pit at your base and camp around that for 15 days. Carry some nitre with you to have normal endo fires to continue your gathering and exploring

Different seasons shouldn't really effect your food supply much. fishing, farming crops, and all berry bushes don't grow in winter. Bee boxes don't produce honey in spring (unless nobody is anywhere near them, then they produce 1 per day), and you cant get ice reliably in summer and early autumn, but you can get healing flowers from cactus in summer.

I think a rabbit farm is the most reliable food source. You get meat and carrots to make stews, and with the leftover food, you can make jerky/periogi, or put it in a bundling wrap so it doesn't rot. But pig farms are also good since they give pig skins. For monster meat, you can get plenty from hounds and silk farms. You can look up how to make those farms on youtube probably.

Once it's past 50 days or so, i generally get all my food from the above sources, as well as volt goats/cactus. The farms would only be about half built, but it'd still be sustainable. If i had to rank all the food sources based on efficiency, it'd be something like this:

Low tier: fishing, farming crops for the purpose of food (without wicker), manually killing spiders for food when hound waves are giving you plenty of meat, and using bee boxes for nuggets/taffy.
These are a waste of time.

Mid tier: hunting koalaphants, gathering cactus (low tier if you don't need sanity), manually killing spiders in early game when hound waves don't give much monster meat, replanting berry bushes at base, killing catcoons, and using ice as a main filler
Time consuming, but still useful moreso in the early game.

Good tier: killing beefalo/volt goats, spider farming with webber, replanting juicy berry bushes at base, using ice as backup filler, butterfly farm for quick hp, farming dragonpies as wicker (if you have bundling wraps too), and using bee boxes for honey ham when you need hp.
These provide a good return for the amount of time they take.

Best tier: bunny hut farm, pig farm, planting bunny huts inside a tallbird fortress and walling it off, getting monster meat from a silk farm, multiple hondius/bunny hut farm and fire farms in regular Don't Starve.
All these are either automated or extremely efficient, but take a decent investment to set up. Definetly worth it to at least build one of the first 3, so you can have a reliable source of meat.

You should rly play with bosses on tho. Dealing with rain without an eyebrella is annoying. You pretty much need bearger since you don't have a maxwell. just lead him into a forest and have him cut down 1500 logs or so. And you need moose goose feathers to make weather pains, which will help greatly if you want to fight toad or fuelweaver bosses.
With you as Webber and him as Wilson you should have zero problems with food.

Get yourself a bird cage. Farm your spider mound and turn about 2/3 or 3/4 of the meat you get from it into eggs.

2 eggs + 2 meat = bacon and eggs, one of the absolute most filling foods in the game.

You won't be able to use 2 monster meat in that dish, only one. You'll have to farm rabbits or the like to get another source of regular meat.

Your other best alternative, with the birdcage, is pierogi. One meat, one egg, 2 veggies or fruits. You can use monster meat for that one, since only the one meat is required. Pierogi is one of the best health-restoring items in the game.

Birdcage.

If you have excess meat, make meaty stews. If you have excess monster meat, make bacon and eggs.

Bacon and eggs last twice as long and you can get fresh eggs from cooked, spoiled monster meat, so the ingrediants have a much longer holding time. The downsides of bacon and eggs is 40 second cooking time and long preparation steps since you have to cook the meat, feed it to bird, and pick up the eggs.

Bacon and eggs is good for newer players to make though, since they tend to take alot of random damage here and there.

Make sure you save some ice for summer in addition to the nitre. You'll want at least 15 ice for an ice flingo or you're going to have a tough time. Summer causes overheating (use endo pit) and spontaneous fires (use flingo). Make sure you build your endothermic pit OUTSIDE the flingo's range.

You really want a reliable source of normal meat, hence the above advice for either pigman farming or bunnyman. This unlocks the two very best sources for filling hunger, Honey Ham (Honey, 2 meat) and Meaty Stew (3 meat) and you'll need normal meat for them. Meaty stew is the single most efficient food for hunger, but it's not very flexible and inconvenient for your party since you guys only have 150 and 175 hunger.

You can definitely benefit from honey ham. Find a savanah area with lots of rabbit hole and trap each of them. Monster meat+honey+2 small meat = honey ham. You can combine spider farming with rabbit farming by placing spider sacks over the rabbit hole so that whenever a rabbit spawn, it'll trigger the spiders. Alternatively you can hunt for your meat by killing hounds, koalefant or culling beefalo herds, which I think most experienced players (who can kite and hunt efficiently) prefer since they give better meat return for no cost.

Sidenote: I actually found meatballs to be "better" for hunger (in a game time/effort expended sense and not bonus hunger provided sense) IF the world you're in is loaded with fillers (world generated with lots of berries/juicy berries, mushrooms, carrots, and of course lots of ice glaciers). But it's not a good food source if you do any kind of hunting or long term exploring since it doesn't recover a lot of health and doesn't last long. Most people play with giants and explore caves and such so Honey Ham and Bacon and Eggs are by far the best food in the game.

One last thing is about your weapons. I'm not sure what your gold is being used for (I'm guessing luxary tools), but you can get tentacle spikes for free in the marshes. These have 51 attack, which is better than most weapons in game. The best part is you're webber which means you can and should set up a base in the marsh and be totally safe. Just plant some egg sacks in range of merm houses and tentacle spawns. Run around with a cane and pick up all the loot. Don't even need to fight if you don't want to, which is perfect when it's raining.

Bacon and eggs for Winter -> easy meat from bird traps
Honey ham for Autumn -> bees + flowers
Froggle bunwich for Spring for experienced: make tons of Icecream -> thunderstorm + goats
Cactus salad for Summer ( just cause its cute xD ) -> find desert

edit: pro tip: meaty stew is trash, trust me on this :3

Eh, trapping rabbits is slow and you can't move them. Use moles or birds instead. You can move the moles right into your camp, though a fenced-off area might be better. Just don't leave rocks, charcoal, trinkets, or turfs where they can reach them.
