Managing Wigfrid sanity in caves
Hi,
I didn't expect we were going into caves and I play as Wigfrid. I'm not used much to caves at first, but we manage so far. My main problem is maintaining sanity while playing that particular character.

We started a base underground. We have a few drying racks for jerky, which seems to be my only worthy option for sanity, outside the tent, but I don't get enough from it (I don't get much meat to start with, and even if I do, the racks are not fast enough to keep up with my loses).
Currently, it looks mostly like "I kill a shadow creature, I'm okay for a few minutes, then I go insane again and kill another shadow creature", over and over again.

Do you have any tips to help me manage?

We found the ruins. We are trying to get rid of these pesty monkeys. We haven't explored much yet underground. We have built our base in a field of glowing flowers, near the ruins, with two pig houses nearby. There is a rabbit hutch not too far too.
I know befriended pigs have a small sanity aura, but I doubt it will be of great help.
I've tried making a top hat, but I didn't see any difference in the drain while wearing it.

Wig gets sanity from combat as you know so best course of action in that train of thought would be to plant 1-2 spider eggs relatively close to base and just binge-kill them (obviously without destroying said eggs/lairs) whenever insanity begins to be a problem. Also in fist autumn you should have been looking for MacTusks spawns and hunt them in first winter for Tam o' Shanter and tusk (Walking Cane is pretty sweet for its 25% additional speed). As well you will need an Eyebrella that's great when rains and wanna have just 1 slot occupied with anti-moisture item (humidity in caves, default settings, tends to be more of a frequent problem compared to surface - and wetness lowers sanity). Plus, as you mentioned, just kill shadows for farming fuel. If sanity is a really big problem and the above are not available, you can also go for Top Hat + Dapper Vest - it successfully emulates the sanity gain of Tam o'.
