Kill the Dragonfly?

So my wife and I play on an offline server together. Today we ran into the Dragonfly for the first time. Tried killing it over and over. I read the best strategies online to kill it, tried those, didn't work. Just to see how tough this thing really is, I used the console to spawn in about 800 gunpowder (yes, you read that right, eight hundred). I lured the dragonfly to sleep on top of the pile, and lit a grass tuft in the middle of it (to try to get the gunpowder to burn evenly). Well, it only took down about half of the dragonfly's health, and the stupid thing flew away and came back fully healed! Seriously?

Does it seriously take 1000+ gunpowder to kill this? I don't think you could even legitimately harvest enough resources for that, could you? I've tried the same trick with much, much more gunpowder, and it still didn't kill the stupid thing!

Has anyone successfully killed this thing? Legitimately or otherwise?

Dragonfly is one of the more easier to kill bosses actually here watch this video and use the strat I used. hit 6 times dodge hit 6 times dodge etc. You'll get into the groove. It is actually pretty easy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uS86ibPQDYk

Thank you guys for your feedback! Yeah, I don't know why all that gunpowder didn't work. Seemed really strange to me. I'll have to try one of these other methods you guys mentioned.

I know it wasn't explicitly requested, but this mod adjusts monsters' health depending on how many people are on your server. I use it because I play alone and am still kind of a scrub when it comes to direct combat (as opposed to getting treeguards or mating beefalo to do my dirty work). Furthermore, it's configurable for a wide range of monsters in the game, so if you're just having trouble with one boss, you can drop its health down really low while keeping the rest of the game at the difficulty you want it.

Yes i killed it legitimatelly several times, solo and with friends in party. The trick is not to rely only on 1 strategy or op weapon like gunpowder. You need to mix up everything and use all the tools which are aviable. Of course you want to bring a very good fighting avatar like wolfgang, wickerbottom or such.

Some helpful gear are but not limited to: Frost staff , fire staff , ham bat or dark swords, thulecite or shell armors, gunpowder only ONCE for start of fight, icefling vs larvae, lots of walls vs minions, brick roads and walkin cane for speed, grass tufts or saplings for forest fire + iceflingo stuns, lots of pierogi, heal salvae and jerky to heal and sanity, maybe even minion help like pigs, bunnys, tree guards or bearger, deerclops, etc etc

I could go on and on, dragonfly is really fun because its so sturdy and complex, im sure there are thousands of legit methods in killing her, you just have to find the right one for YOU, which suites your playstyle. Also sometimes its easier to solo her than to try to kill her with 6 newcomers, because ghosts drain your sanity really quick and make failure much more likely.
Generally speaking try to find a partner with same or superior skill level and knowledge about DST than yourself. Else it will get frustrating if you try it legit :p
