Giant and hounds noise but nothing spawning

I keep getting the noise notification for giants and hounds but nothing ever spawns, we are geared to take them on but they just wont spawn, any ideas?

looks like you are being haunted by a ghrost.... i've had this happen to me once and i lost my left leg because of it..

either they spawn at the edge of your map and aggro on something else but you or -which happens often on multiplayer game with dogs - they go to other players at the other end of the map (not to all)

I actually had the hound thing happen today, I'm playing alone and on around day 4/5 hounds started barking, but then they stopped and never showed up. Since I set up my base next to some water, it is possible they spawned on a bit of land across the water that I don't know about yet, but idk

Nowadays, there's a protection for freshly spawned players. You need to have played in a world for a few days in order to be targeted by dogs.
