Question about MegaBase
Hey guys , i want to build a mega base in DST but there is one thing i want to ask before i start.

how do u guys manage fireprotection in ur mega base ?

do i have to build ice flingos everywhere ?!
what if i build a long road with a fence , do i have to also protect every single piece of fence etc with flingo ?!

i think that would be quite complicated... flingo doesnt fit in every small corner and yeah idk... farming all those gears...

or should i just start a new world and turn of spontaneous combustion during summer ?!

Build summer base in caves.

when you do not visit a part of your mega base it will not set fire unless you cross it, will you use every part of it then I suggest to use a flinger

hey guys, yes i also thought about that but both suggestions are no real solution to me.

i just want to build and decorate , just like in minecraft for example.

if i have to build iceflingos everywhere it totaly changes the way i can build

f.e. if i build a long road with fences ... i would have to build iceflingos right next to it aaalll the way
it would look stupid and eat up a lot of space + who can supply smth like 50 iceflingos all the time ?!

staying in caves during summer... always.. idk..

yes it would work but u have to keep in mind that i am talking about a mega base

i would have to completely skip building each summer... and i couldnt allow friends to go outside during summer too...

Why not build "megabase" in the caves too? If I'm not mistaken you don't overheat there and if you play as Wendy it is even better. I like to put pig village there and give them miner hats.
If you didn't switch to beta reign of giants I suggest you not to create your world for the long run. New patch adds some stuffs that require new world. Devs said they are trying to make it work with older worlds but I think weird things may happen.

I also like to build pretty megabases.

If you have ever seen one of the mega base tours that dst youtubers do, you will know that they do not use flingos very often. When it is summer they retreat to a cave base or summer base protected by one or two flingos. This is becuase wildfires only happen when the player is on screen. This means you do not need to have flingos everywhere, only a summer base. Hope this helps.

ye ok. if i ever manage to finish my mega base on the surface i might think about building in the caves too

overheating is not the problem though..i have another world with 500+ days and its np for me to survive as long as i want

i could continue building there too... i farm gears until i can make a new ice flingo and then i have another circle where i can build

but it doesnt make sense to continue there...
it would take ages until i have all the gears and i could only build small "modules". always connected with iceflingo

u cant build small corners/details or anything, you have to adjust EVERYTHING to the iceflingo
ur design options are extremely limited

im not sure if we talk about the same "mega base". when i say mega base i want to use the whole map as a canvas

ive seen several videos on utube from people with 5000 days and they also dont build the ice flingo everywhere

im not sure how they handle it. mb they dont go into areas without ice flingo during summer. or maybe the always carry luxury fan... idk
maybe they also turned of wildfires ?!

but one thing is for sure if u use iceflingo ure building a survival base...
its not the same as if u ignore iceflingo and focus on aesthetics

ye i mentioned that in my post above.

but ok i see, thx for the info.

but i dont know man. i dont know if i like that concept...

what if i want to farm anything during summer and i want to run around in my base...

and all that just because of wildfires ?!

it just doesnt make sense to turn on wildfires if u want to play dst like creative mode in minecraft

In Don't Starve singleplayer u can use Howling Conch to make rain. In DST You can try to carry Ice staff with you and extinguish everything..

I thought megabase is on entire peninsula my bad.
I can't find other solutions than disable wildfires.

ye man. im not sayin its impossible... all those solutions u brought up are absolutely valid..

hm yeah ice staff would be an option. but the thing is... wildfires also start slighty offscreen..

and maybe i would be able to be careful and instantly extinguish everything.. but what if a mate wants to play with me and hes unexperienced..

i started a new world today, together with a friend. turning off wildfire was a fantastic decision. its so awesome to just build the way u want without having to worry about iceflingos

we still have to search gears , so we can build fridges and overall u dont miss anything without wildfires

u still have to be carefull with fire, for example when it rains (lightning strikes)

i was also a bit worried that it would be to easy... but no..

we will build a lot of cool stuff now, like a giant kitchen. with a stone house+ icefridges inside , fences , several crockpots, stone floor etc

Personally, I'd consider the concept of smaller summer bases to be directly against the purpose of a mega base. You spend all this time building up this base to be totally awesome and have everything you could possibly need, and then intentionally don't stock it with something you need for summer and just bugger off to a tiny campsite out in nowhere instead?

With the anticipated Ruins resets coming in ANR part 3, flingos shouldn't be too much of a problem anymore, since the respawning broken clockworks means gears are renewable without opening tumbleweeds all day.

i agree with the first part of what u said

but more gears are no solution. even if i would have enough gears to build flingo everywhere...

flingo doesnt fit between other buildings very well. he needs a lot of space around him and that makes it difficult to build the way u want
this is mb the biggest problem , if u want to concentrate on building

besides that imagine u want to use several peninsulas on a huge world ..
you would need dozens of flingos, everywhere... it would look stupid...
+ u cant supply dozens of flingos all the time..

u would have to build everything in circles, because of flingos range.. or u would have to overlap the flingo areas...

many ideas are just not possible if u want to include flingo everywhere

for example, i want to build a food area

so i want to have, lets say, a square surrounded by fences. a small stone house with fridges inside, and right next to the house a small plaza, with stone floor. add several crock pots right in the middle of the stone floor.

now all this is too big to place a flingo outside of the fences , because the flingo range wouldnt reach the center of the plaza. so i would have to build several flingos between the crock pots.
and that would ruin the whole idea...
I don't mind maintaining 3 or 4 flingos per player. On an established base it's not a burden at all. Pop a couple glommer fuel in each one and you're good to go for several game days. But for anything over 4 per player I'd get bored as hell having to fill them all the time. The space they require doesn't bother me, but maybe that's because from day 1 on any server I build with flingos in mind. I build my base around flingos (or where I know they'll end up) rather than the other way around.

Anyway good luck getting something sorted out that you can enjoy. :)

well 4 flingos are np for me to.
in one of my other worlds (500days) i always used coal as fuel. 10 coal and the flingo is at max
i also designed everything with flingo in my mind there

but if u want to use the complete map as building ground 4 or 5 flingos wouldnt be enough.
even 20 flingos, wouldnt be enough.
