1 - Prepare for the summer heat:
  • Prepare clothes that will help you remain cool longer: straw hat, umbrella, eyebrella, summer frest, reeds for a floral shirt, etc.
  • Prepare items that will cool you down: thermal stone, luxury fan, fashion melon, ice cube, chilled amulet, whatever seems most practical to you.
  • Build endothermic fire pits and stockpile nitre for endothermic fires.
  • Or just stay underground during daylight hours.

2 - Prepare to defend your camp from wildfires. You have a couple options:
  • Gather ice and gears for ice-fling-o-matics.
  • Stockpile some combination of ice staves, water balloons and/or luxury fans.
  • Gather manure or rot to put out smoldering objects (unless you're Willow).
  • Stockpile telelocator staves and use them to call lightning storms; wildfires won't start if the ground is wet.
  • Build a camp in the caves and wait out the summer days there; wildfires don't start at night.
  • Build a desert base, since the sandstorms prevent wildfires.
  • Build a summer camp that only contains fireproof structures: lightning rod, fire pit, endothermic fire pit, ice box, bird cage, scaled chests.

3 - Prepare for the Antlion:
  • Find the fastest route between your camp and the desert oasis.
  • Gather trinkets to appease the antlion.
  • Prepare fishing rods and pig skin for fishing at the oasis and crafting goggles.
  • Build an endothermic firepit at the oasis if you intend to fish, even if you don't plan to build a camp there.
  • Or prepare supplies to fight the antlion: you'll need a thermal stone to provoke the fight, but beyond that I'm not really qualified to give advice.
  • Or live underground and prepare to run at a moment's notice to avoid getting crushed by the Antlion's boulders, if you want to farm boulders. (And there are a few reasons.)

So a summer strategy might look like this:
  • Build a cave base.
  • Only visit vulnerable surface camps or resources after dark.
  • Carry an umbrella, straw hat and nitre during surface excursions.
  • Make a trip to the oasis to appease the Antlion every 4 or 5 days, fishing at the oasis during the day and making the trip to and from the cave at night.

Or this:
  • Protect the camp with ice flingomatics.
  • Carry an umbrella, straw hat, and chilled amulet during trips away from camp. Only wear the chilled amulet long enough to cool off when overheating.
  • Put out any smouldering objects outside of camp with your bare hands, and just eat dragon pie to heal the damage.
  • Make trips out to the oasis to appease the Antlion.

Or this:
  • Prepare a collection of telelocator staves to keep the weather rainy and the ground damp all season.
  • Wear an eyebrella and umbrella.
  • Kill the Antlion.

So who is antlion

It's a giant insect thing that appears in the oasis desert (not the dragonfly desert) during summer. It's sort of a hybrid of the Pig King, Shipwrecked's Volcano, and a seasonal giant, depending on whether you choose to pay tributes to it, ignore it, or pick a fight with it. Except it gives desert stones instead of gold, it isn't as deadly as the volcano, and it's rooted in one place when it fights.

Antillion is not a big deal. Killing him can be rather difficult because you can easily get trapped in his sand castle.
However, if you don't want to kill him you can easily ignore him. Just make sure to wear your walking cane and be on a road when you prepare to dodge his earth quakes.

Actually, the best advice for summer is to go to the desert on first day of summer. Pick 5 cactus flowers and craft a floral shirt. With that equipped heat management becomes a breeze.

Any other useful tricks? Like the cactus one

My best tip for veteran players is to quickly rush ruins before your first summer.
Do this only if your experienced player and very good prepared with fighting. Else you will die alone in caves or ruins and never get your loot back / reach touchstone for rez and lose the server / world in the process.

Reasons: you can get alot of gears and trinkets from there for 2 important usages:
You should build alot of iceflingos for base protection and if you like your friends and coop base you should farm alot and alot of trinkets to give them to the antlion. The antlion will give you desert rocks which are great for teleporting party members.

Anyway after you survived 5-6 summers, that seasons gets pretty easy and there are many many methods of surviving this season or doing new projects.
As a veteran i now really love to make dedicated summer bases at the new desert oasis!

happy gamin ^_^

Thank you guys for help, but im still stuck with deerclops :steamsad:
Hyebri May 5, 2017 @ 12:56pm
Deerclops is easy, practice kiting.
First always run in his attck range, bait out his attack and then start fighting him. To kill him just hit him i think it was 1-2 times then run back a bit and run back, hit him 1-2 times and run out of his attack range again, repeat until hes dead. Best if you watch a tutorial on youtube and/or practice in a new world by just spawning in items and the deerclops.

the problem is sanity

Jerky, cooked cactus flesh, cooked green caps, cooked blue caps and many more

Deerclops is actually not easy. Not for new players anyways.

1) He almost always spawns at night fall.
2) He spawns in winter when freezing is an issue.
3) His area damage and hatred to structures forces you to take the battle somewhere outside far away from any of your regular light and warmth sources.
4) He hits pretty damn hard with a higher range than most other other enemies which leaves you very little room for timing and mistakes.

However, you can easily cheese the fight. Gunpowder is effectively gone and so is the bell but there is still one trick left and it comes as natural as winter:
What do you do between summer and winter?
That's right! Chopping wood in order to refill your fuel storage after burning it all in fling-o-matics and so you don't have to freeze coming winter.
What happens if you chop a lot trees?
That's right! You spawn tons of tree giants with almot as many health points as a real giant (like deer clops).

Now combine....

Deerclops comes around Day 30 on normal settings. Go to a heavily forested area before nightfall and just utulize his bulldozing behavior for easy wood gathering.
