Any uses for night light?

I love the concept but I always feel like that nightmare fuel is better spent on swords. Not to mention I play Maxwell... I've read a lot about how supposedly useless it is but c'mon people. There has got to be SOMETHING you can do with it that warrants the cost?

According to the wiki its meant to light up the ruins since nightmare fuel is very common there. Personally I'd prefer like them a lot more if they worked like fueled maxwell's lights only spending burn time if the player was near and they aren't in another source of light.
