What are those Shadow Hands?

After day 19 or so every night some shadow hands would extinguish our campfire. Why is this happening? Does it have to do with insanity? 'Cause it was around 120-140 at that time.. Thanks in advance.

It happens all the time starting from day 1. These hands just want to take fuel from the fire. You just have to run out and shine light on start of the arms. They then will disapear

It happens very rarely to stone fire pits.

Err, you don't need to shine light on them. Just push them back into the darkness, and be careful not to run too far into the dark.

If light hits the ends of their arms then they'll disappear regardless of where the hands are. Adding logs to the fire (if it isn't full) or running at the end with a torch/lantern can get rid of them without the sanity drain.

In reality, they react with your body, not with light, if you know where the end is you can Just run for it.
Altough its not advised if you are not sure to comeback/reach the end of the arm in time..

Both stepping on, or shining light on the root., kills them, Remember that even Ghost players can do this.
