READ THIS: Known issues and fixes
Before posting in the support forum, please read this thread carefully and look for other threads with similar problems. We want to avoid multiple threads in order to help you ASAP.

We'll continually update this thread with known issues and other problems related to SteamWorld Heist. If possible we always try to provide fixes. If you work out a fix for your specific problem, please share a detailed description of your problem and how to fix it. Info about your hardware and OS is really helpful, too!

We're a small support team at Image & Form, so your help and patience is valuable to us.

General things to try if you’re having trouble:
  • Ensure your files are not corrupt. In Steam, right click the game, Properties -> Local Files. Run "Verify Integrity Of Game Files".
  • Ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date. (This is especially important if you're e.g. running a laptop and using an integrated graphics card!). See list below for driver download links.
  • Restart your machine.
  • If the problem remains, please contact info@imageform.se.

Known issues

Failed to save game!" / "Failed to save settings!"

Some gamers have received the message "Failed to save game!" or "Failed to save settings!". This has been linked to antivirus programs with ransomware protection. On Windows, it operates on the entire "My Documents" folder, sometimes also preventing legitimate file changes.

The solution depends on which antivirus program you are using, but it should generally be possible to add an exception for SWH, or for the specific save data folder:

Windows: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\SteamWorld Heist\

macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/SteamWorld Heist/

Linux: $HOME/.local/share/SteamWorld Heist

Heavy flickering

Some users may experience heavy flickering in fullscreen mode. This primarily affects users with NVidia graphics cards running at 4K resolutions or non-native resolutions on monitors with a native resolution greater than 1920x1080. Besides running the game in windowed mode, try one of the following workarounds:

First of all, make sure your drivers are up-to-date and that you installed them from your vendor's website to make sure you have the right OpenGL drivers.

If you have a 4K monitor and are running the game in native 4K resolution:
  • Make sure your video card is HDMI 2.0 compatible and that you are using a High Speed HDMI cable; or use DisplayPort instead of HDMI.
  • Reduce your monitor's resolution to 1920x1080, or edit My Documents/My Games/SteamWorld Dig 2/settings.xml and set Screen.FullscreenSize to "1920;1080" rather than "desktop"
If you have a non-4K monitor and are running at a non-native resolution:
  • Run the game at your monitor's native resolution, if possible.
  • If you have an NVidia graphics card, try using the NVidia control panel to change the resolution of your screen rather than the Windows desktop settings.
  • Edit My Documents/My Games/SteamWorld Heist/settings.xml and set Screen.FullscreenSize to "1920;1080" rather than "desktop".
  • Edit My Documents/My Games/SteamWorld Heist/settings.xml and set Screen.Borderless to "1" and Screen.WindowSize to "1920;1081" (note 1081; not 1080).
