Mouse or controller?
The game recommends a controller but I have troubles understanding how aiming manually would be better with a controller over a mouse

Played 3 times from start to the end with a 50$ mouse. No problems at all.

No.. I'm just trying to know which one is better, not how much you paid for your mouse

I tried the controller since they recommended it but didn't see any advantage in using it. I switched to using the mouse and found that worked better especially with aiming.

Which is better will be subjective. Perhaps try both ways for yourself and decide?

It recommends a joypad because that's where this game initially came from. It really doesn't matter what you choose, it's all personal preference.

I started with Mouse and Keyboard, thought it would be just fine - but it felt a bit clunky and I decided to try out the controller, and it feels way smoother.
Personally recommend Controller

I'm playing with a controller and having in mind I can do everything with it (the support is full) I find it even more convenient than M&K. :swhpiper:

Rediculous reply to someone who anwered you question by telling you he prefered playing this game with a mouse and was specific about his anwwer.

When I use a mouse to shoot, a big yellow crosshair appears on the enemy, and the gun waves a bit.

When I use a gamepad controller, I cannot get the crosshair to appear, then I have got to estimate the direction of the target, by manually moving the gun direction up and down. I sometimes miss completely.

Am I missing something? I feel like I tried all the buttons with the gamepad controller.

Hey, I have been holding off playing Steamworld Heist until I get my question above figured out. Can someone please give me a tip? Anyone use an xbox controller out there?

AFAIK you can't do that with the controller, just swap to mouse if you can when you feel like you need more accuracy for trickier shots. Even if you use mouse, characters arms still move up and down anyway, but it's true that it feels more accurate this way.

Also, if you're having trouble with aim you should probably favour sharpshooters and guns with lasers.

There is no crosshair option unless you use the mouse. Speaking from experience as someone who initially played this game on a 3DS, got the Steam version, and used an Xbox controller at first. I always considered the guesstimation involved with aiming to be part of the challenge. I've since switched over to using the mouse, which is pretty fun.

Also, the gun wavering happens no matter what controller you use.

EDIT: Got sniped by some Limes.
