Geometry dash not starting!

Whenever I double-click my shortcut or press play, nothing happens. I have an i5 processor, which I know isn't the problem. It says I've played for a minute, but I never saw the loading screen for the game. Somebody please help me, I really want to play Geometry Dash!

Hi,

- Can you tell me what graphics card you have?

- Do you get any error messages or does it just not show anything?

- Have you tried restarting the computer? (Not sure if you meant you restarted Steam only)

- In the Geometry Dash Steam folder there is a folder called "CommonRedist", try installing/repairing the files in there.

- Try launching the game in windowed mode. Open Steam and go to your game library, right click on Geometry Dash and select properties. Click on "set launch options" and write windowed.

Enter Steam and right-click on Geometry Dash. Then click on "properties." Click on the Local Files tab, and then click "Browse Local Files." This will bring up the game files in Windows Explorer. Next, right-click on the launcher (the icon that says "GeometryDash") and select "properties." You will then see a tab that says, "compatibility." Click on that and then check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" And then browse and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Close everything out, and then your problems should be fixed. The game should launch correctly with no errors!

Yeah I'm getting this exact problem where I press play on steam says its running yet nothing opens then it just automatically closes for no reason I've tried everything but, nothing!!!!!!

I know how to fix it.

Go to Local Disk/Program Files (86x)/Steam/steam apps/common/Geometry Dash/_CommonRedist/vcredist

Then click on 2010 and click on vcredist x64 and 86 and do install/repair
Then do the same for 2013.


This should fix it

I still cannot launch the game - I tried compatability mode for everything, I tried troubleshooting compatability, I tried everything - And it still doesn't work.

- I have an Intel HD Graphics 4000 with DirectX 11

- It shows nothing after the "Steam - Preparing to launch Geometry Dash..." dialog.

- I have rebooted my computer and Steam numerous times.

- I tried scanning the folder.

- I tried putting the entries "-sw" and "-windowed" into the launch options.

The game does not start.

- I have also tried running it in compatability mode for everything it shows up with.

That's how it worked 4 me ==> You can try to exit Steam then try to load game with Win95 compatibility while Steam is NOT working. It said that "Steam wasn't installed properly" or smth like that. Then I tried to open Steam 2 or 3 times, the game loaded automatically but sound was crappy, then I closed the game and unchecked compatibility, it worked! Works fine 4 me now, I hope that won't reset after rebooting my laptop. And I've tried many solutions before that so maybe that was the key. Hope it helps you!

I had the EXACT sam roblem on my Windows 10 HP Pavillion (AMD A10-5745M) laptop. So, I tried all the recommendations, restarting, verifying game cache, etc. (Though my steam would say I was playing the game, even while my computer was asleep, off, or running a different steam game). What I then proceeded to update my graphics drivers. This still did not work. So, I thought about the problem logically in the sense that something was going wrong in the computer. I thought it was the graphics drivers being outdated (by 1 version, lol) and then thought it was the Windows 10 environment, but it was neither of these. I the thought it was a problem with GD, which it obviously wasn't because my other friends could run it fine. So, I thought, it HAS to be the monitor (CPU runs fine, RAM gives no errors, HDD gives no errors and freshly defragged). So, the only way to 'fix' a laptop monitor is to replace it, which of course the display was working, so there was no need to do that. The only OTHER way to 'fix' a monitor (this method does apply to ALL windows PCs) is to go to device manager and uninstall the "Generic PnP Monitor" and the refresh for hardware changes (which instantly reinstalls the monitor). And surprisngly enough, this worked. I figured others had the same issue and posted a thread on steam. Although I assumed it only worked on HP computers with AMD hardware, I had to do the same on my BRANDNEW Asus M32AD desktop with Intel hardware (windows 10 preinstalled) so it should work for you. *Sorry about long reply*

Same issue, the game just wouldn't start. What i did was delete my local appdata.

1. Press Windows+r
2. Type C:\Users\Your name\AppData\local
3. Find folder "GeometryDash"
4. Click it.
5. Delete everything inside it.
6. Restart Geometry Dash

If none of the things I suggested worked, then I've got nothing. I understand your frustration as I went through the same thing, but there isn't any further we can go. Robtop realeses updates so slowly it could be a while before they patch it, if at all...
