Geometry Dash

Lag and screen-tearing on a high-end PC.
...err...high-ish, at any rate. I can't be bothered to give specs, because I'm really not PC-literate, but damn if it doesn't run stuff like Skyrim, The Talos Principle, and other such graphic-intense games on ultra settings without a hitch.

Yet, Geometry Dash gums it up somehow. I've tried every variation of fullscreen and windowed, V-synch and Smooth-running. I've even turned the textures down to their lowest setting.

The best I've managed is to have it in windowed mode (which I hate, because...well...-windowed-!)

It plays smoothly about 60% of the time, but then it will start to jitter a bit, which, as much as I hate to admit it, doesn't make me any worse at the game than I already am, but it sure it annoying.

Changing the options doesn't seem to fix anything, and in fullscreen with Vsynch and Smoothing on, the screen tears badly.

I'm really puzzled as to why it's performing so badly on my PC, so links to other threads describing this, or explanations / fixes / etc. would be welcome.

I'd prefer to play this in fullscreen, but the way the screen splits horizontally, I just can't. It's too distracting.

Waited a number of days for a response, and have seen a couple other similar threads without response, so I'm bumping this once, in the hopes of some information that may help others as well.

Is it just an optimization problem, or what?
I'm having the same problem, wondering if its poor optimisation like you said. Gimme a shout if you find a solution.
Created a guide on fixing screen tearing. Try it if you like: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=423922999

I have the same problem, it runs smothy most of the time but suddenly fps go down to 10 for like 6 seconds and its really annoying, have you fixed it?
I have the same problem and I really hate it since I want to play the game but I can't because of it
Guys:
Go to the library
Right-click on the game-title on the left
Go to properties
Click: 'SET LAUNCH OPTIONS'
Enter following: fullscreen
Click 'OK'

This worked for me
I solved my GD stutter and lag by changing a thing in Nvidia Inspector.
I changed the value of "Enable application for Optimus" to "SHIM_RENDERING_MODE_OVERRIDE_BIT" and it fully worked.
Hope it can help you guys, Good Luck :D
Geometry Dash was lagging on my computer so bad that it wasn't even playable. I fixed it by going to options->graphics->advanced (it is on the top right corner)->disable vertical sync. If the game is still laggy disable and smooth fix.
If you are in Windows 10, try disabling record in background. Press both the Windows+G key>Settings (The gear icon) >Game DVR>Turn off record game in backgound by clicking the little box (If it is checked, its enabled and if there is no check, it is not enabled)
This is very late, but in the GD settings under Graphics > Advanced ensure that V-Sync is on and smooth fix is off, that fixed the problem for me.
I disabled Vertical sync and turned on smooth fix, that worked for me
if you have a nvidia gpu and geforce experience when in geometry dash press alt+z and disable instant replay
Alright well, I came across my own way to fix this. I play on a computer with a 2080 super and a Ryzen 3700X so there was literally no reason for my stuttering/choppy gameplay. I have a 144 Hz monitor with G-sync compatibility so while playing in fullscreen having v-sync on is a must since the game caps at 60 fps otherwise. Turns out that in Nvidia Control Panel, under "Manage 3D settings" and in the global settings, I had to turn Vertical Sync (V-Sync) ON and not off. It was off, to begin with, but after I turned it on and applied it the game was back to normal. Hopefully, this helps anyone else who needs it. However, I will have this occasional freezing point with no subsequent pattern for less than half a second, but I dare say this is in relation to something else. Nonetheless, I fixed my issue and I couldn't ask for more.
This worked on my windows 11 laptop. Right click on geometry dash, click on properties go to local files and hit browse, right click on geometry dash and click on properties, go to compatibility and choose windows vista service pack 2

It lowers my FPS to 60, which tbh, I have been playing 144 and 240 fps way too much that 60 feels so jittery
