You need to craft the game's badge. Trading cards, if you get them all, they can lend you a badge, including an emoticon and profile background. That is also how you level up on Steam

oh derp. I just saw that you already has some badges. Why did you think that it was different for GD? (Not trying to sound rude/angry/sarcastic here)

Well, how did you get the castle crashers Profile background? If you did it by the normal means, that means you got all the cards and crafted a badge with them. A Badge awards Steam XP, a game emoticon and a profile background.
