I started playing from homm 2 and I liked the sixth game just fine. Not sure what part is "casual" really...
Castle fraction change? Mines that change owners when u take over a castle? Useless Magic Book with only 2 usefull spells? What the hell is all of this?
I've played all HoMM. And HoMM 6 was even worse than 4.
You mean the conversion to your "culture"? That's a great feature, didn't bother me much to be honest...
The only difference before about mines is that you had to send a second useless noob hero to run around and capture mines and nothing else. Now you get them with the castle instead, simulating that someone is sent out to do it automatically once you capture it.
Book with 2 useful spells? Wat.
Nice, you started with ad hominem. When people do that it usually means that they are out of valid arguments.
You can think of me as a casual, purple elephant, hitlers clone or whatever - doesn't mean it's true.
I never said "second hero" - I said a second noob just to capture mines quickly. I tend to use two heroes actively whenever it's applicable.
I'm a happy person, see? ->
Actually, I've played HOMM3-6 myself and I don't think 6 is as bad as people make it out to be. And I agree with the OP, conversion of castles is a good thing. It's also an option. Don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do it if you don't like it. Also, I really liked that mines were bound to castles in the area. It was so annoying when the AI started to mass produce heros just to take over your mines with weak armies in previous games
What I disliked from VI was the units and story rather than the gameplay.
And that right there is where the casuals comments come from. Heroes 6 dumbed the game down deleting strategic elements. It reduced the need to protect your mines. And it reduced the number of different resources needed to progress.
Taking away the details takes away the depth of play and turns it into a casual lovers piece of ♥♥♥♥.
If people have properly been tracking the HOMM7 development, you'll realise that the developers have been taking in a lot of player feedback in order to correct the problems most people had with the H6 game.
That said, I'm not likely to buy unless players review that Uplay interferes less or is toned down in it's requirements.
Won't even talk about how insanely broken, buggy and laggy it was, aka gonna let the technical issues that almost make it unplayable aside (oh ... and UPlay sucks the filthiest D on the planet).
First they pump that thing out without townscreens, something present since forever. Then they give us "townscreens" worse than those of Homm 4 or even 3, when those of H5 where just frickin magnificent, and now it looks like H7 will have those sammy ♥♥♥♥♥♥ screens.
Then they simplify gameplay beyond recognition (less different rec, less rec management, no mine protection or conquering required, fancy "skillpoints" etc over actual gameplay).
... and to add insult to injury, the "story" was as 1dimensional as its "characters".
Only someone who has never played H3 and/or 5 would ever dare calling this crap a good game.
Overall I was extremely disapointed with VI, hope the same mistake doesn't happen on VII.
Also, IV is kind super weird and different, but isn't so bad as people make it looks like.
And here we can see that you are casual because you don't even bother to learn mechanics of game that you are hating. Now i will explain why i think so - in Heroes 3 you make ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of low level units only to scout and capture mines (very strategic indeed) but did you know that in Heroes 6 you can block enemy mines with your champion and even gain resources from them if you have right talents, you just need to stay in that mine and If my opinion matters i think this is more strategic because you have to know when to retreat and when do strike compared to hit and run strategy from H3, in the end outcome is almost the same but for try hards like you, they dumbed down the game. Maybe it is to hard for you to plan your movements instead of making bunch of low level heroes with perks boosting their ability to roam around the map and doing nothing else.
I don't agree with every decision of developers but Heroes 6 is a good game, Heroes 4 also is If you give it a chance and try to play (I can only complain about how battle screen looks) but people will hate them for not being Heroes 3 with better graphics.
And no, Heroes 3 does not need better graphics. It is the silly decision to put a focus on fancy graphics that eliminated the possibility of making custom maps with secret areas that you had to explore to find. Instead every path is plainly visible with nothing to figure out.
The idiotic design of the campaign missions of Heroes 6 where the AI towns do not develop, do not grow based on income, but instead are given ridiculous amounts of resources and troops to buy on day 1, and then are told to keep an army of strength X in town. The AI does not even play the game you are playing!
Heroes 6 is an abomination and disgrace to the franchise.
