Is there a Level Cap in HoMM 7? If so, what is it?
I understand the level cap for campaigns - it keeps balance and keeps the later campaign levels challenging. But for single map scenarios, I never understood the need for a level cap. I get the argument that removing the level cap removes part of the challenge, but leveling up is also part of the fun. OCD-me likes filling up skill-trees, and it is frustrating to be playing a large+ non-campaign-scenario, and midway through the map, I can't get any more experience or add skills to my main character. Part of the fun is seeing/enjoying the advantages of the higher-levels. Can it impact game-balance? Of course it can. BUT IT'S AN F'ING GAME! If that is part of the fun for myself and others, what is the harm for a single-map scenario? Level caps eroded most of my enjoyment of HoMM 6. I just stopped seeing the point of playing because most of the fun for me is leveling up and developing a main hero, and then reaping the benefits of those levels in the late game, and I felt ripped off by the level cap. That is in addition to my vast negative feelings aboiut Ubi-crap sanctioned spyware. DRM my left butt-cheek... It's spying and gathering data, but that's another post... Is there a level cap, and if so, how restrictive is it?

i heard lvl 30 and that you pretty much will not reach that level in a skirmish

When I played Beta 2, it was level 30 max, indeed. It was pretty easy to get it (during beta...), I was simply on a map with only 2 other ennemies.
Yes, it was not fun... I wanted to learn new skills, even if I didn't need it. But there is a lot of obvious choices in this game to make it balanced, even if it's less fun.

Notice that with a specific adanced skill, when your hero meets another lower hero, this one get 15% experience (I think) from the first hero. When I tried with a hero level 30 and a hero level 1, I got directly a hero level 20! So, it's easy to make an army of super heroes. ;) (Furthermore, this special skill allows you to learn all spells from the higher hero.)

PS: Even in Heroes 3, there was a level cap! But I never reach it, indeed... I think it was something like 108? it's fun, but I must admit that it's pretty easy when you are really stronger than any other hero on the map.

PS2: I dont know if there will be a level cap in Heroes 7 final version for map scenario, of course.

the teaching skill is a standard skill that has been around for a long time.

it's 30th, but you can mod it
In the streaming yesterday, they said level 30 was the level cap.

I've never mod'ed Heroes before, but I would to remove the arbitrary level cap for single-scenarios (not for campaigns to preserve the game balance and challenge). Is there an official mod'ing community like with Civ 5 (using auto-import from the community via the game menu), or do I have to download some random software from an unofficial website based soley on trust with no official support..?

Level cap is too low. It is not hard to reach it even on small-medium scenarios. Would be nice to see it beign removed or increased.
jubeldibub Oct 14, 2015 @ 1:48pm
It's definitely far too low. Escpecially the late-game (on every midsized map and a main-hero-focused play style) is ruined, if you can just go to level 30.
So my suggestion is: Just put an activate/deactivate option in the settings of the game ("Gameplay") and let the player make the choice. Then everybody can decide for his/her own, if he/she want to cap the level or not.

Really? How? I take a look at the official editor of the game, but didn't find anything to remove the cap. Perhaps you can share your knowledge how to mod this?

The game really would be a better one, if there would be no level cap.

Hi Jubeldibub I spoke to our Editor engineer and he gave me the follow walk through on how you can remove the level cap (set it to whatever you want) in the Editor.

It's only limited in the Map Editor GUI. So you can go into Unreal Mode, and then View-> World Properties -> World Info -> My Map Info -> Map Player Properties -> Player Properties. There you can adjust the Max Level for each Player

Note there are currently no bounds checks, so if someone enters -3245 we cannot guarantee that the game still works

Hope that helps. Happy modding.

Hi Heart! First of all: Thanks for the quick advise! I really appreciate it, that you directly answer in the community discussions :) I hope you stay with me another few minutes ;)

This walktrough just alter the level cap for one specific map, right? That's for itself would be no problem, but unfortunately you can't load existing original maps in the editor, in order to modify them (with the changed level cap for example). If I try to load an existing map of the original game (even if I copy it first and give it another name), I just get the message, that this is a cooked map - and nothing will be loaded.
So only complete self-made maps (which are kind of difficult to make) can have a modified level cap. Could you please change this, so that the community can work on original maps too? Or is there already a way to do this, which I didn't see? Concrete example: I'd like to change the level cap in the skirmish map "Savage Sea". Is this possible?

yes there is a level cap. 30

Exactly.

And this is a Hero edition where modification is only applicable to self made custom map, they made it very clear on twitch, everything is map-based
I don't have a problem with "map-based-modding", but I'd like to have the possibility to mod the original maps in order to use a modfied (or canceled) level cap on them. Without this, the whole "modding of the cap"-thing don't make much sense.
So I hope there is a way to change the level cap on original maps like "Savage Sea" or "Dried Lands".

Yep. Really want to see an option to disable max level cap or a slider to change it. Every time I reach 30 level I'm loosing interest in further map exploring.

My first game , dried land in hard. Reached 30 yesterday far before the end of the game and far before the end of my projection of 'the skills I want next' . Not sure I m gonna finish this game, it makes no sense playing with only half of the gameplay. We need the menu from the editor to be put as an option during map selection !!!!
