1.4 worked fine; 1.4.1 Broke my game
Never had a problem with running any version of the game until now. Launched Steam last night and it auto-updated Heroes 7 to 1.4. Launched and played the game for a couple hours. Seemed to work fine, and I appreciate the higher contrast colors on the map and the improved loading times.

This morning (Friday, US eastern time) I turned on the computer and opened Steam, and it auto-updated Heroes 7 again - this time to 1.4.1. Now when I launch the game, the game screen is shifted to the right - appears to be "blown up" or "zoomed in". After the initial introscreens and the stained-glass intro video starts to play (all blown-up/shifted to right), I click the mouse button to advance to the main menu. I then get a crash error window: "Might and Magic Heroes VII has stopped working", with options to close the program or search online for a solution (generic Windows 7 error dialog).

System Specs:
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Intel Core i5-4690 @ 3.5GHz
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti
Dell w3415 monitor (running at native resolution of 3440x1440; game set for this resolution also)

Anyone else have similar issue?

Thanks!

BTW - is it possible to uninstall the 1.4.1 patch, so I can go back to 1.4 (since that seemed to work fine last night)?

Thanks!

Hi Echo_Delta. Could you take a screen shot of the issue you're getting? Also if possible please send me your latest game log so I can forward it the relevant engineer and determine what is causing this crash. You can find your launch.txt file by following this path on your computer

C:\Users\[username]\Documents\My Games\Might & Magic Heroes VII\MMH7Game\Logs

And you can email me singleton@limbic-entertainment.de

Game is CTD, when I try to load old single player saves or trying to start a new skirmish game.

Heart - assuming you meant "Launch.log" file, that and some screenshots are on the way to your email, thanks!

Same Problem for me. Can't start anything since 1.4.1. Everything used to work previous to the patch.

If anyone else is having the same issue I had with 1.4.1 (see original post), then this may help you too...

Heart examined my screen shots and my launch.log file, and determined that a game configuration file was configured wrong. The path to the file is C:\Users\[username]\Documents\My Games\Might & Magic Heroes VII\MMH7Game\Config, and the name of the file is MMH7SystemSettings.ini. It's a text file that is editable in Notepad.

This is what it had for ResX and ResY parameters:

ResX=5856
ResY=2112

My only conclusion is that the 1.4.1 patch changed these settings somehow. I have changed them to my monitor’s native resolution, and what I had the game resolution set to:

ResX=3440
ResY=1440

Changing the above parameters does indeed allow the game to start and run.

However, there is still an interesting bug left behind – the main menu screen is shifted to the right, rather than full-screen or centered. The game itself (once you’re in a map) appears to be fine – it’s full screen 3440x1440, centered, etc. But the main menu screen is not. I don’t remember if the main menu is full-screen or 2560x1440, but it appears to be a 2560x1440 screen, shifted to the right on the screen.

I sent another screen shot showing the shifted main menu screen to Heart.

Thanks a TON to Heart (Dan) for the excellent and fast assistance!

Jeez.... I don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Unfortunately, that fix didn't work for me. I would very much appreciate a game that launches and doesn't crash. The rest (making things pretty, more maps, more factions, better AI) can all wait, can't it? First, can I get an update to this game that allows me to run it? Without me being a computer programmer?

Just dropping in to ammend my post #7 of this thread, where I said the main menu screen is shifted to the right - I was incorrect. The main menu overlay made me think it was shifted to the right, but it's actually working correctly.

Ever since fixing the resolution parameters in the settings file, 1.4.1 has been working fine. Colors look great, load times are great.

I'm really struggling to find anything broken at this point. Pretty addictive game play!

So since 1.4.1 is anyone else unable to get past the load screen or start a new map? My wheel just spins.... left it for 6 hours... still spinning.....grrrrrrr

This is strange. How can I be rock stable & you're not.

Specs:

Win 7 Pro 64-Bit
i7-4790K (stock)
16 GB RAM DDR3 2400
MSI R9 390X 8GB Video Card (using most recent Radeon drivers)
32" BenQ BL3200PT (2560x1440 Res)
OB Realtek ALC1150 Sound (Most recent drivers)

Playing older saved scenarios without a hitch. I'm I just lucky?

My game will not let me even get to the first loading screen before crashing

Those developers-suckers never tried that patch in depth, I can bet it.
I had to delete my entire campagin in order ot make the game work again.
As I have said, you, yes you that are reading this and has programmed that game, plese change job, go to sell potatoes or something.
These suckers at Ubisoft are ruining this great serie... I've played at it since the first chapter and I can see how down the new chapters are gone.
Please developers, go to play to the old ones HOMM and then see how you have to make a good game.
I don't care for your extra brilliant 3d graphics, I just want to play again and to enjoy my favorite serie.
