With magic being op I guess you mean control type magic cus damaging spells does not seem that strong even with really high spell power?
Tier 1: Academy
Tier 2: Haven and Necropolis
Tier 3: Sylvan and Stronghold
Tier 4: Fortress and Dungeon
Any thoughts?
Dungeon last? Great initiative, not a single bad unit, access to good artifacts from merchants. :)
Aint necro the weakest faction? Crap initiative, only 1 ranged unit and 7k skeletons is just 1 high spell power implosion away from being useless.
Sounds like you don´t know what you are talking about, first of all you can choose which magic to spec your mage tower in so don´t matter much which magic is their "speciality", 2nd how is medusas crappy? A hero with high luck and decent morale will lock down 1 to two stacks with the medusa every time they act and act they will with their super high initiative. Also their unique level tree is great, two attacks when enemy cant retaliate? Yes please! Their champion unit(hydra) frequently destroys 3 stacks at once. I agree that they are a faction that is slow to get going tho but late game they are unstoppable.
Academy and Haven, with the right hero, build the right way... total ownage. Haven even more so, with light skills defending, healing resurrecting... not one unit lost from day one till i met the enemy heroes.
Necro, with Lucretia (10% of damage life steal on all units in her army) , just roll the map under your feet. Just avoid undead and mechanical units in the first couple weeks, until you get your numbers HIGH enough, then nothing can stop your march.
Fortress, once you have your rune of balance, you're done. Played the one hero which have rune aura 5x5 instead of 3x3. Earth magic and rune magic maxed. Impenetrable defense, Regeneration, and unlimited mana to earth spike your opponents to nothingness. Rune+Earth+Fire is another great build. Again, once i had my Rune of Balance available, i haven't lost ONE unit, always resurrect everyone, IF anyone died in the first place.
Then, Sylvan, Dungeon and Stronghold... interesting, but after i played with dwarves or a Light Magic Haven, or a Light and Air magic Solmyr ? they are unplayable to me. Losing full stacks of units in a battle is not acceptable anymore, can't play them.
