Need help Sylvan C Mission 2
I have been playing Heroes since H2 way way back. Although I am not a super player, I eventually figure things out. However, I am baffled with this mission. I have reduce it to EASY and still get defeated. The Red guys come out with hundreds of creatures, like around turn 25 or so. Does anyone have any advice they would be willing to share? It sure would be much appreciated.

you are not suppose to fight red guys :) not all of them at least.

you need to visit all obelisks, that will trigger whirlpool to show up, when you will approach this whirlpool - you will win the map.

I killed all red heroes except the strongest one. Then I sent a level 1 hero as a bait to the strongest red hero and that strongest enemy anded up chasing my level 1 hero, swimming around one of the islands. AI is so dumb - it never stopped chasing that hero, so did not create any problems for me.

Thanks flimpy for your response. I do not seek out the red heroes - they just come to wherever I am and then take my cities/forts. I just do not know what to do. I have watched you-tube let's play and he doesn't seem to encounter the red heroes either.. I just do not know what to do. I have started this scenario 12 times thus far - just a matter of time before Red comes after me - I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is. But thank you again for your reply.

Thank you bloodraven43. To date, I have tried all directions - lol, with most of my games taking the city to the east/northeast right after I grab the fort on the starting island. So I have decided to replay the first scenario over - I originally played it on normal - I'm thinking that although it says it is the easy level I am now on, I am thinking it might not have reset. Hey I am grasping at straws! And I would not mind at all if you provide the spoiler. The way I am looking at it is: If I cannot win this level, I can not get to the other ones. SO if you can, please do. I appreciate your response to my plea for help.

Well I re-played mission 1 - and fixed one mistake I made earlier - not developing the 2nd hero. WHich I have corrected. I just LOST the 2nd mission again - RED came, took my fort and I fled with the weaker hero. She survived. He then came to the island immediately north, and attacked my main hero. His troups were SO overwhelimng, that although I put up a good fight, I was easily disposed of. SO I will reload a few turns ago and once again try. If not, i will abandon this mission - Is there some way to fool the game (by editing some file I guess) into thinking I have completed the mission so I can go on to mission 3? This is pointless, i am afraid. I am also wondering if I got a bad load of the game or something - there is no way the guy can be this strong this early - and i am on EASY level. Very dis-hertening.

What skills are you picking on your heroes and what's your general strategy? The game is such that if you build your heroes bad, even if you level them, they will be way weaker than if you build your heroes well.

this might be your problem...do not leave the mission until the main heroes that are brought to the next mission are leveled up to max...you want max earth and you want to summon elementals...i think that is prime...i forget...if you dont pick the correct magic guild, that will kind of make it suck too.

i summoned 4...knocked thosee 100`s down fast...lol

just restart mission...save under a name instead of auto-save...go to counsil table and pick another faction...then go back later try and beat it.

I second that. Earth elementals are must have, if not for the sake of fighting with them, then for the sake of blocking the shooters with them (I often cast them in front of enemy shooters and do not attack with Elementals, just defend, so they would survive for longer, meaning blocking shooters for longer, giving me more time to deal with other enemy troops, without worrying about enemy shooters).

Try building as much magic guilds as you can, to carry all these spells to next maps (this is general approach that I used).

But still, the idea of the silvan 2 map is not to become strong enough to beat the red. So no need to hold on to your towns, let him capture them, you could re-capture your towns later. The idea is to visit all obelisks, which are protected by neutrals, so Kenny your heroes needs to be strong enough only to defeat neutrals protecting obelisks. I think all red heroes are easily beatable, except one, which you need to stay away from at all costs. Try to buy an extra hero (so that loosing it will not be an issue) and use it as a bait for that red hero. if strong red hero will end up chasing your bait hero - it is almost the same as having it defeated.

i like to clear the board of those annoying gnats...lol...there is only one board i couldnt clear all of the ai heroes. i think that was necro 4.....you had to go snatch the heroes head back.

Agreed with these posts. What I was getting at was that, in a campaign where your heroes carry over, remember that the later maps are to be beat with the strength of your heroes, not the strength of your troops. So if you build your heroes poorly, you will have a heck of a time. Replay map 1, prioritize moving up the magic trees (so pick one ability at each tier, then move, don't grab all the abilities of a tier first even if they are really good) to get the 8 arcane needed for top level spells (if they let you get those in the guilds, I haven't played this one yet) and make sure to build up the mage guilds in every base you get. If you have multiple bases, picking different specializations for each guild helps with getting good spells from multiple schools of magic.

Great advice TemjinGold. I WON - I WON - I WON. I'm a little overjoyed right now, but after 13 map starts, it is about time. Taking the advice given, I did replay map 1 and yes I built the heroes a little more strategically. Great advice. So thank you to all who provided me input. You may laugh, but I couldn't have done it without the help. I know one thing - I doube that I wil ever, ever play this map again.
