I left the game minimised on the desktop for about 45 mins on the main menu from a fresh boot. Upon starting a new game, I got an error ding.
I thought it was just another "program not responding" error, as I have been getting almost every time I try to load a map.
Turns out it was windows telling me I'm running out of memory.
Checked task manager: Heroes VII using 4.5GB of ram.
High 5!
Moral of the story: Dont leave the game minimised on the main menu, it has a massive memory leak.
Upon loading a map, the game will max out all my available memory and then crash - which was 6GB just then.
Funny thing is, the game was absolutely fine for about the first 2 hours - Ever since I got my first "program not responding" I have a massive memory leak issues and can't play the game at all without it crashing to desktop. The game just refuses to load any map at all without cramming my ram full of junk and crashing when it hits the peak.
This is the first time since I have owned a PC, 1999, that a game has acted like this... and I've played over 500 games in that time. Totally weird.
I'm not alone! So that's what's doing it :/ Campaign works fine though for some strange reason.
For me its the campaign.. I'm going to go try single maps and see if it works, doubt it will though.
As a test, I created a new game and started it just fine. No lag or anything. It would appear something we triggered caused a memory leak to start and now it is stuck in all the saves for that game. Just when we were starting to get into the good stuff too.
