I agree with you, H7 is the best H game so far regardless what some have to say.
I voted for Dungeon legacy. Couldn't care less about dark elves.
Magic system is so broken I can`t believe it. The 7 magic schools are too much and give hard time to other elements of the game. They used that magic guild specialization to save their crap system.
Have a look at heroes V artifacts where dragon` s set gave % initiative to large/small/melee/shooter stacks in addition to other stats. That`s what I call depth. Here we have copy-paste artifacts, a lot of artifacts that give +1 dmg to creatures and on top of that they reduced the number of slots for artifacts.
LOL
The current skill system determines your hero build from day 1. I wouldn`t call that excellent but restrictive.
First of all the magic isn't completely broken. I think keeping characters to one or two instead of whatever you feel like keeps the game balanced and adds both strengths and weaknesses instead of creating one army that can dominate everything. It encourages more than one castle if possible and more than one hero creating more strategy at its heart instead of a single army becoming unstoppable.
Secondly yes that is true but it keeps artifacts unique and less powerful in a way that can still ridiculously empower your army with the right ones but isn't an ultimate game changer. I like the per level items and that most artifacts only affect the hero and his ability to lead (as they should) not making the creatures themselves stupidly powerful from artifacts used by the hero not the creatures. It's more realistic in my opinion.
Lastly yes it is set but it allows you more choices than it did in all the other might and magic heroes games besides 6. But 6 was clunky and I disliked it. You get to build your character in a way of your choice improving the areas of your choice as opposed two choices every time and I think it's great. Keeps the hero the hero they are supposed to be without restricting or giving it too much freedom.
I've changed my profile from private to public. Happy now?
@use of magic - magic is underpowered and at this point it's not worth having heroes that use magic, as fighters give you better benefits. Spells themselves are just weak, and having a variety of schools doesn't help the fact that there's just a handfull of things actually worth using and in the long run fighters > magicians.
@town building - this is the only point in which I could probably agree, but the fact you can't convert towns is a big minus. And it has nothing to do with the alleged creation of horde style armies to wipe the map, for me it's about freedom of choice. Until town conversion was introduced in the HOMM series, I would simply not use them - garison with native troops not to loose them too easily, max cash production and leave them alone for the rest of the game at whatever state they were. Conversion allowed me to change some cities in key locations which makes sense from the lore side and a simple practical aspect. Removimg town conversion is a step back.
@artifacts power - again, just like magic, they have been watered down and their power greatly reduced. In the previous titles (even 6!), artifacts did play a major role and they could never be a game changer but could influence battles in many ways. Again, Heroes 7 goes back to the roots but it's a step back and as Natalka_TOH said, we had examples of really deep artifact systems in the past and this is just not it.
@factions feeling unique - it's been like this in most of the instalments of HOMM, it's nothing good really, just a thing that didn't get screwed up.
All this and other issues like bugs, interface issues, disapearing items in trade, broken multiplayer, campaigns that can get you stuck forcing you to replay and many more, made me not buy this game even though I was waiting for it and it was one of the few games I really wanted to have. Well... playing for about 10 hours on my sons copy made me rethink if the game's worth the price I'm asked for it, and sorry - objectively looking at it, it's just not. PLaying part 6 is more fun than this which is a shame really.
I'll probably buy it when it goes down to 30 euro and is on a sale meaning 15 euro as the end price, as I will want to have it sitting in my colection. But will I actually play it again? Maybe if they patch the hell out of this, but the damage has been done and this will remain a medium quality product at best.
matters who you are playing with really...if your component hasnt ported and or has a crap internet speed, yes the multiplayer will not work great with all online games...when i hosted at speeds of 70mbps internet speed and played players with 50+ mbps with ported routers...not one issue at all and that was with older builds...lol....thats a problem with online gaming...if the suits would just give everyone high speed internet bandwidth, complaints would be alot less....even with pc`s anymore and or laptops which arent really supported...too many choices and cheap will always give you a hard time...haha
