What happens is the game goes to clack screen right after the initial warning screen, and the task manager shows "not responding"
I tried all the old suggestions with the compatibility settings but nothing worked. I don't play much games so I cannot say if this is the only game not working, but Heroes 5 is working.
I found what's causing the problem and how to solve it but I don't know why it's a problem to begin with.
Simply put, the game cannot handle the number of threads (32) offered by the 3950X. I think it has to do with the Unreal engine, but I don't know exactly. The problem is resolved if you go to your BIOS and disable SMT (simultaneous multi threading). You can switch back after you play your game.
I tried to by-pass this by using process affinity settings but it didn't work.
I never heard any other game not starting with 3950X, so of course it had to be a Heroes game...
EDIT: If somebody reads this and they have a suggestion to solve the problem without disabling SMT, please do post... Thanks!
The problem is sure weird but an old trick surprisingly worked: Just put Uplay to offline mode!
