Best spells?
What spells do you like the most/use the most?

For me, lower tiers:

blizzard ( i use the fixed version but it's still useful, especially with master of water 1)
air shroud
regeneration


higher tiers:
implosion
shadow image

Tier 1: Heal, Regeneration
Tier 2: Firewall, Celestial Armour
Tier 3: Implosion, Fireball
Tier 4: impossible to choose the best, only Time Stasis & Erratic Storm seem quite useless

Heal is good but Regenration lasts 3 turn, and there are more heroes with earth skills than light skills

Firewall is ok but only if you have some fire magic perks to make it cheaper/stronger

Fireball is good for fire mages, I agree, probably the best fire spell

I have used Time Stasis, it's useful in some occasion. Erratic storm is really bad, I guess it could be good against massed ranged units but too situational for the cost

some synergies that people might not now:

a simurgh close to an enemy unit and a hero with prime magic skills and very high magic will cause implosion to instakill a stack of any size

earth magic with the +1 defence skill for every earth spell casted will allow cast stone skin over and over and cause huge defence values. I had an AI fortress hero do that, his units' defence went to around 70, it became super difficult to win

to slow down enemy units, blizzard with water magic I and entangle are great (there is one more spell I think)

Dark magic skil at full and high magic allow magic heroes with high magic to create shadow stacks that are almost 1.5 times larger than the original stack, allowing to insta kill them in some cases

Most Tier 4 spells such armageddon, chain lightening and poison cloud are realy not that good for their cost

Armageddon is great if you're playing Academy, you can deploy only Gargoyles and Cabirs and then use it :)

Poison Cloud is one of the best spells to break the Haven turtle strategy.

But Armagedddon doesn' cause enough damage to kill everyone usually...

as for poison cloud, maybe against players, because the ai doesn't really use that strategy

Yeah, it's practically Armageddon that doesn't damage your troops. I literally screamed when decided to cast it for the first time.
What else do you want? A spell that one-hits the whole enemy army? Three casts of Tsunami and off for the next battle.

For large stacks Implosion hands down. Especially when you have prime magic grandmaster skill that allows you to cast a second spell. Two implosions in one turn. I had a hero which could take down 75% of creatures from the stack. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, nothing can do so much damage

My most cast spells are probably 'Face of Fear' and 'Regeneration'. Though 'Teleport' gets used a fair amount too.

thread about covers it .. tsunami a couple times takes out most of it, implosion if they have a stupidly big stack of something. Summon elemental is really good because the AI will attack it -- its a meat shield to absorb attacks. Shadow is similar -- meat shield mostly. Fog on dangerous ranged attackers is a big help. Ice-strike is insanely good; a couple of army types that get 2 attacks (looking at you, elf archer) can kill a very big stack.

water and prime are what I go for. Its not that the others are bad, but these two get the job done with only 2 schools; there is nothing else I need.

Elrath's conviction
Heal
Resurrection
Cleansing light

Fire:
Blessing of Arkath
Fire bolt
Fire wall
Fire ball

Water:
(Depends on if I'm playing a hero that needs it and then:)
Frost bolt
Ice strike
Circle of Winter
Tsunami

Dark:
Shadow image
(If forced with a Hero that needs it, what ever I can piece together to get the job done. I don't like Dark magic choices, at all.

Prime:
(like above with Dark, another I don't like and the two could have been combined for something more complete. If they had the reanimation spell added for the dead.)
Dispel magic
Implosion
Summon elemental

Most pf these, of course, are dependent on who I'm playing but the couple I have to have is:
Sylanna's bounty
Heal or Regeneration

I'm just not that impressed with the higher level tier spells except:
Resurrection and Tsunami

If I'm not cheating (Rolling the towers till I get what I want) and take what comes from the magic towers, I'm like everybody else, piece it together and hope you get the ones you want else where.

I think most games I complete I only really use tier 1 and 2 spells for the most part.
I also think Storm Arrows is a little over powered, when combined with a hero that can get the center of the skill wheel with Air. I like it though, because it's fun.

for early game i say burning damage firebolt, insane damage, insane dot for 3 rounds for extra cheap.

for late game
-Tsunami is like Armageddon but only on the enemy's side.
-Implosion: I dislike implosion as it's singe target and messes up unit placement
Summon elemental: That with the elemental echo is basicly cheating summoning nonstop behind enemy lines on the shooters
