I personally loved them but some others hate them . Every campaign tells a folk story of a race, i find them really pretty and suggestive even though a bit childish.
All campaigns have scenarios that follow a story except Academy, which has 4 separate stories connected by an artifact, and they have a 1000 and 1 night flair.
All of the stories have some sort of meaning, like outsiders can win, don't be too attached to things or people, etc.
I played MMH2 by i don't remember those campaigns so I can't tell how different they are
In terms of gameplay, they are a bit easy but they have beautiful maps, many interactive features like solving puzzles or finding things, some very diverse like a huge port city, heavens, isalnds, dungeons, gates of sheogh. I find them breathtaking sometimes
H5 had a pretty simple story but not really wise and with some stupid points. However, it was memorable and easy to orientate in.
H6 story was really complex and elaborate but since the particular campaign took place at the same time, it was almost impossible to understand the whole story when played for the first time.
H7 is in the middle. Its story is much more mature compared to H5 one but not so complicated as H6 one. I liked especially the moral of life message hidden in each of the campaigns, it reminds me of my favourite Star Trek a bit :)
In conclusion, if speaking just and only about the storyboard, I can definitely recommend H7.
And Antalyan, I understand you are the one to thank for the community patch.
Thank you. Really, thank you.
AOW, Warlock, endless legends, etc... They are all great. But HOMM has something special, and a place in many people hearts. People like you keep the flame alive. Thank you
I play skirmish map Alternate History amd I'm still not bored with it. I have a few hours under my belt.
I don't think balance is off? Balance between factions is pretty good tbh. i think the main issue is magic heroes being better usually than might heroes in part thanks to artifacts that give +12 magic for all spells in a school. With that a fire mage can do a lot of damage for example
