I have 400 hours of play , and yes - there are still bugs. So far, no bugs which stops me from reloading and playing on. The worst bugs made me restart a couple of campaign maps. And a few times I had to go back a couple of saves to reload. This is not accuring a lot - And to me, these are minor issues comparing to the beauty and fun of playing the game . And it is huge .
Some people will recommend you to buy Heroes V in stead, and I cannot argue with that - HoMM V is a lovely ! lovely! game.
But I recommend all the HoMM games , to a dedicated TB tactics fan.
And since M&M VII flows perfectly most of the time, And after my 400 hours, I heartily recommend it.
The fifth one requires an external skill wheel to see the progression and has some balance problems. Homm7 fixes this.
I also see a lot of hate on the store page, but as for someone who played with the series over 20+ years since HoMM1 (and the original King's Bounty), HoMM7 is great.
Otherwise, HoMM5 is also great. The third installment is good too, but that one has some very serious balancing issues if looked with 2017 eyes. Also, stay away from HoMM6, that one is practically a time sink.
I think the low sales were depending on some factors:
- Uplay always on DRM, which worked terribly with HoMM6 (service outages and lot of bugs), especially in the beginning. This is a non issue, but you need to have Uplay.
- In the begininng, there were lot of bugs, but they were ironed out. Again, this is not the first time for a Heroes game
- It takes a lot of time and the user base became old.
- The game isn't really explaining too much, so the learning curve in the beginning can be steep. It can be a good idea to start off with HoMM5 and the Haven campaign: That one builds up very slowly, but is very good at explaining concepts.
- It also got very bad word in the beginning. I heard also rumors that it was very bad only to try it at a friends house and buy it afterward.
The intro animations are just boring, not bad. All other graphics ar beautiful , a delight to look at .
As for buying it at a discount - you have to decide for yourself.
I believe a sale start in October , but not sure.
No matter what you choose, you will get hours and hours of gameplay for your money, well worth every penny. So good luck , and have fun
But if you have fun, catching a million enemy heroes with zero units wandering around the map with zero idea what they want to archive, that game is for you!

Not worth playing the game for single player. And multiplayer is impossible.
Difficulty was ok, campaigns were nice to play (Fortress had a good story, Academy too. Bastion on the other hand, felt like a race against the clock for the most part).
But by far, the 2 DLC "the lost tales of axeoth" were awesome. Nice stories, nice characters, humor and sometimes, a bitter end. If you have done the IV and enjoyed the campaigns, it's really something to do.
I think Heroes, with the time, is more of a niche game. If you liked the others, you will probably like it. Otherwise... Hard to tell.
It's very hard for the serie to change without sacrificing its soul so it can feel "old" gameplay wise.
Sorry for my grammar, english is not my mother tongue.
Having said that, I'd highly recommend the game with the expansion for single player and Hot Seat, but not multiplayer. BTW, been playing this series for 22 years.
5 is my absolutely favourite and is the best HoMM that I've played. All factions feels and plays very different, the game has more tactical deep than 3, the campaign is enjoyable and diverse, the gameplay is good. Tribes of East also gives the option to have an alternative tier unit for more diversity although I think it wasn't very well implemented, still more cotent to the table.
Even for today's standard I think it's a decent choice, it also dam cheap.
Can't talk about 7, but 6 was awful.
H7 is very similar to H5.
Many H6 changes and new mechanics are gone.
