Using the runic forge

Encountered a runic forge on a random map for the first time and can't figure out how to use it. Clicking on the "offered" special magic items did nothing, and I could not transfer any of my carried magic items to the 5 slots below that list. What am I missing?

You use be able to tranfer your magic items to the slots but only those which can be transformed.

You come to that building and move 4 artefacts from one set (the supported sets are mentioned in the forge description) from your hero inventory (left) to the squares in the building (right). Afterwards, an ultimate artefact should appear in the square in the middle - move it to your inventory.
