i have the old icewind dale 2 disc, and it just crashes when i try to make characters

i wonder why there isnt an EE for 2, and only 1 / baldurs gate 1 - 2

ID2 was better really. it was something i liked to play around with
i kind of never beat it, cause its very complicated,. but i want to

IWD2 is still sold at GOG and still works.

Google for "Icewind Dale 2 lost source", and read up on the rumors/claims about nobody being in the possession of the game's source code anymore.

=[ yeah i heard that
i just cant seem to get my copy to work, its the original disc
it loads up, and runs up to the point of character creation
but once i get to choose hair color/and stuff, it crashes.

iam weirded out by gog or any other form of launchers, they all seem sketchy

been steam since it first ever came out. never trusted anything else

i looked at epics Anti-consumer launcher, and just walked away.

GOG is a great, legitimate service and it's run by CD Projekt (Witcher guys). Their games also have the benefit of being DRM free and they do work to ensure compatibility with current operating systems unlike Steam. Even if you don't use Epic, Origin, etc., GOG is highly recommended.

yeah i see their store actually functions better than steams mess...
trying to sort things in steams store is damn awful
but GoGs was great, icewind dale 2 was 9.99

poor steam store, 9000 japanese girl games kind of ruined the market

Stopping curation was a bad move. Scams, asset flips, achievement clickers, waifu sims everywhere. It's impossible to find good games now.

Only way I could get that game to work was through windowed mode, so ... that might help someone out?

Regardless, IWD2 (but the whole series) is really awesome. Shhh, kshhht.

Sorry you can't get it to work.

Did you patch the game?

couldnt figure out the websites. old games dont have auto updates.
mine is the original disc version, and i can only make a character up to the color part
then the game crashes at that section.

i found websites with mods, but i dont know how to actually install them
Armanz Jul 7, 2019 @ 9:28am
The mods work fine, but you need the basic patch for the game otherwise it likely won't run.
I know older games don't have auto-updates, that's why you need to use google.
Mods usually work by putting them into the installation directory and starting them from within there. (Some mods don't require starting and installing them and just need to be put into a specific spot in the installation directory).

+1 recommending GOG games, it is rare they do'nt work "out of the box" if requirements are met and they have decent support.

And +2 i would purchase an Enhanced Edition of Icewind dale II!

Even the AD&D Gold Box games run great, from GoG. They come already in DOSBox and ready to play. You can tweak some settings in the DOSBox configuration as well.

does the gog version work? cause my disc one did not, it just crashes at character creation.

Beamdog and others say developing IWD 2 EE is too hard. (I.E; it would mean they'd have to work, not recycle the one engine they made again.)

It breaks my heart. I wanted IWD 2 EE so bad but we'll never get it.

Also I'm considering some GoG myself. I hear they're coming out with an update so you can have all your libraries from all stores on their page. Which is awesome. I forget what games I own with who since every asshat needs their own store now.
