Went into nvidia control panel and set most settings to high but characters look good when inside but when outside they look horrible and weapons are not smooth but real jagged?

Dont think there is too much you can do about it. Try setting Fxaa in Nvidia control panel as thats a actual screen filter. As the graphics are not actually 3d Anti Aliasing and Antristrpoic filter prob will have no effect. Fxaa should though.

Also make sure to set the UI scaling to off. That really cleared up a lot of problems for my graphics.

You are right it helped but God the characters got really small

Chars were modelled for a 640x480 res (which was the standard res when the game got released), so yeah for our 22"+ HD screens it's small now.

Op - this is a old game that has been redone. It is not a modern game by any means and never was. When this game first came out we were playing it in 640 x 480. Now the game supports high resolution (whatever your desktop is) and works well now with the FXAA (It did not before). I suggest you turn off your zoom option, turn on FXAA and enjoy one of the best true type RPG's that was ever made.

Will the enhanced edition have better graphics than the original? The original insists on using my integrated graphics even though I have a decent graphics card.

I don't know if this works for Enhanced Edition too (I choose to play the original instead of Enhanced Edition), but I can tell you how I got the original Icewind Dale to scale to full height with my NVIDIA card in Windows 10.

In the NVIDIA control panel under "Display" go to "Adjust desktop size and position." Under the section that says "Apply the following settings:" select "Aspect ratio" for the scaling mode. In the drop down box under "Perform Scaling on:" select "GPU." Lastly, check the box the reads "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs."

I have the game at full scale its just tiny
or I can put it in that tiny box and everything is normal size
either way this should have been fixed

the only way to get the picture to look like it should is to force the monitor into the lower res of 720 or 640
no other way works
and that leaves about 70% of my monitor black

having a dev come on here and post to change the desktop res to fix this game is quite.. well idiotic advice esp when you can just change that ratio for said app vs all of windows
really set my windows desktop to 640x480 is that a joke sir dev?

stay away from this edition its not enhanced in any fashion
and made the game hurt my head when I used to enjoy it sooo very much

You are mistaken. The most common 1920x1080 works just fine.

It is enhanced in many ways compared with the ancient original, but it features fixed 2D graphics are sprites that cannot be scaled up infinitely without looking bad when using huge display resolutions.

1920 1080 doesnt work "fine"
it does work but if you are as old as me, i played this when it came out
it was nothing like this

the gfx look worse than the original as it seemed to try hard in places it shouldnt
claiming that the old version used old 2d sprites isnt a valid reason not to revamp this and make them bareable to look at with higher res

again if you do have a monitor that will display the old res's the game looks normal
not better than the original just the same normal game normal size normal fonts etc

but at 1920x1080 no way..

Then I will be more explicit: It continues to work fine here for a high number of players since the release of the enhanced ediition. I've replayed the v2.6 beta recently, btw, but this slightly older screenshot is what it looks like ingame:

What would be the rationale? You cannot simply claim "isn't a valid reason" when in fact it is a valid reason.
