Custom Portraits...
So, I don't see custom when picking a portrait for my character. I did just make a portrait folder inside the Icewinddale EE using the old resolution.

I am not sure if they are using a new resoltion for the portraits or they need to be somewhere else. But I don't see any documentation on this.

EDIT: AH, nevermind. It's like Baldurs Gate EE where you put it in the documents folder not the game folder.

Yup in Documents/Icewind/Portraits

Pictures ideally should be 210x300 and in bmp format, 24 bit. I think the file name needs to be under 8 characters.

Yea, I found out having it in a higher resolution. But I am not sure about the small portraits resolutions so I kept them the same. And I always put it in 24 bit. Not that I am not sure if a higher bit is doable, I know the old games couldn't render them. And I NEVER lose any quality in my images using 24 bit.

I just took a large and small portrait from the original baldur's gate game and it claims the portraits are to large.... Any ideas?

Edit them and make them 210x300 in 24 bit. I use gimp myself, but only because I know my way around just enough to do edits like that.

Could you explain to me like a 5 years old how you make the game accept your custom portrait, and in particular where exactly you put the file?

The full path would help me a lot...

So, for other noobs like me, it's actually quite easy: .local/share/Icewind Dale - Enhanced Edition/portraits/ is where you drop your 210x300 bmp files :)

I wish I could upvote you Tribaal

I cannot get this to work. This is what I do:

1. I create the custom portrait, make it 300Hx210W pixels, save it in 24 bit.
2. I make sure the filename is 8 characters or less.
3. I put the files here: Documents > Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition > portraits

It doesn't work. I can never see the custom portraits in the game.

I found another forum that said that for IWDEE the portraits had to be 660x420 (and end the filename with L) and 266x169 (and end the filename with M). I tried this, it didn't work either.

Did Windows 10 hose up custom portraits for this game?

(BTW, I think the path provided by Tribaal is for Linux, not for Windows.)

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Make sure the name of the files does not start with capital letter?

I get the portraits to show in game fine, but I don't get the Custom button that allows me to specify one for each purpose. I can pick any of them and it fills both places with the same image. No custom button on the appearance dialog. Please advise.

Please, name them, eg.

1aM.bmp
1aL.bmp

If the name is similar (with the only difference in M and L at the end), then the M portrait will be used for the side-bar, the L portrait will be used for the Record screen.

This works, thanks!
I wrongly assumed the pack I downloaded was named correctly, but there was something in the names that was messing this up... maybe a "!" or "-".

There is a a cool web site that automates (online tool) the process of making any image you like the right format and size (for IWD:EE, BG EE and original, and PoE).
http://www.notra.fr/portrait

There are some extra portraits (already formatted) on this official forum,
which were added by a user for IWD:EE.
https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/46782/ineths-collection-of-icewind-dale-style-portraits

Nb - they should be placed inside the following folder :
...:\Users\[Windows_username]\Documents\Icewind Dale - Enhanced Edition\portraits

I know this is a little old but I am having trouble with the Notra Gate generator

I tried a jpeg just to see if it would work (it did) and now it won't work on anything but jpeg.

I tried to send an email to them but it keeps coming back undelivered.

I tried reloading several images, reloading the site, accessing the site from a different source, closing my browser and rebooting. All I can get it to work for is jpeg.

Any ideas?
