I have no fire arrows or a weapon with fire or acid damage. Are those only pick up items or can I buy them somewhere? I don't have a straight up mage either.
Arcane spells: burning hands, Melf's acid arrow
Consumable: Flaming oil, flaming arrow, acid arrow (the arrows are looted from enemy archers so if you kills too slow, they may be used up)
Weapons: some weapons have a chance to do fire damage, but they are random so you may not get them. You can buy a weapon called Troll slayer but the price is more than 30K.
Class abilities: Monk of sun soul, dragon disciple have fire attack.
Apart from the various fire based potions you can find, Oswald sells 30 or more Flaming Oil in Kuldahar.
You also get a flaming b4stard sword at the end of the previous chapter that can be used for killing them (though its random when the damage will get to kill them and may take a while). If you have this, put it on the best fighter. In prerp, its also worth noting tht a investment into b4stard swords knowing you will get this sword early on is also handy. (note Steam wil sensor this type of sword, so I apologise if the word isn't showing).
Trolls aren't that difficult to deal with and the early ones especially are easy to down, its only really later the Dorn's Deep snow Trolls that are a pain. Incontrast, a lot of things like salamanders are much harder, as they hav flame and frost auras that are constantly pounding you with elemental damage.
Also, if you have a script set to be offensive, note that none of the spell caster related scripts cause the mage to attack once the trolls are on the ground. As someone who uses scripts, it is a pain to watch a mage do nothing.
Note, however.... There is basically really only two locations with trolls in overall (Dragons eye and Dorn's Deep), if memory serve me correct the two expansions (Heart of Winter and Trials of the Task master) do not have them in. So its not worth fully investing into the anti-troll builds too far.
Also another tip, when using the scorcher spell with a mage, postion the mage as best you can. The scorcher is able to get more then one enemy, so make the mage wait until several trolls are on the ground. Then line them up quickly and try to burn two or more of them.
