Which version of D&D is it based on?

Baldurs Gate is based on AD&D (D&D 2nd edition), which one is it? I heard its the 3rd edition, is it right?

No, IWD2 based on 3rd edition, but not IWD.

Mostly a 2nd AD&D ruleset. some changes to make it work on a PC.
