"Black Knight" chess piece

Once identified this item can be placed in a quick slot for use. However the item is grayed out and unavailable. Is there a trick to using the thing? I tried resting for 24 hours and traveling to another area to see if anything would change, but the item remains grayed out.

are you trying to use it with a prohibited class like, i dunno, mage slayer?

i have the item and it works fine in my game.

I only had a fighter thief, bard, and fighter cleric. They can all put it in their quick slots. The item doesn't show any conflicts in the "not usable by:" section. The item being grayed out seems a little odd to me. Doesn't it simply vanish once used? So it's not like it doesn't have charges left (I believe it's a one use item).

yes, it does. perhaps the area you're in is preventing summoning?

It was a good thought, but no luck. I was in the Temple of the Forgotten God and traveled to Kuldahar, the Vale of Shadows, and the Kuldahar Pass to see if I'd have luck elsewhere. I mean, perhaps these early areas don't permit its use? Can you use the item in these areas?

Another thought is that perhaps it only activates after reaching a certain chapter in the game (I'm in chapter one). Though that seems like a bit of a stretch. I just hate to pick it over another item in that chest if it's not ever going to work...

If I use the console and spawn the chess piece, the one I spawn is able to be used. I'm not sure what could be wrong with the one I pull from the chest (assuming anything is wrong and it's not supposed to be grayed out in quick slots initially). Can anyone confirm if the Black Knight is supposed to be immediately able to be used upon acquisition from the chest in the Temple of the Forgotten God in their game during chapter 1?

Does anyone know the stats and/or equipment possessed by the Black Knight the chess piece summons?
