Full Paladin Party
So I've just started my second run through, and thought I'd do something a little different to how I've played these games in the past. Usually I go for a broad mix of classes, but given that you can create your whole party in IWD:EE, I thought i'd go for 6 paladins. I understand the main drawbacks, no ability to find/disarm traps and limited ranged offensive spell capability. But i figured the pros outweighed those cons. Anyway, my main question is this. Why have they all got a permanent Invulnerability buff, and what exactly does it do? Also, why have they all got a permanently adjusted strength of 25 and the ability to regenerate HP at a respectably fast rate? I don't have much experience with paladins because i usually play an evil party, and in BG1:EE, when I have played a good party and recruited a paladin, he had nothing like this. So I'm unsure if this is normal or if I've activated some kind of easy option without realising. I'm playing on normal story mode.

It seems you have turned on the "Story Mode" difficulty setting, which enhances your characters in several ways and makes them invincible.

That pointed out, I don't see the benefit of playing with six paladins. Particularly not on the higher difficulties.

Thanks, just turned story mode off and it's all back to normal. I knew something wasn't right because my characters were basically gods.

I don't know if there is any benefit yet, that's why i'm trying it out :)

I'll let you know how it goes if you like?

Back in the pre-EE days, I actually solo'd the game with a paladin. Just the base game, I didn't have the expansions at the time. Paladins get enough cleric spells to handle a nice array of situations, they get plenty of healing, and their swordsmanship is enough to handle any threat offensively.

Splitting six ways might gimp you a bit, though. For a long time, that'll just be weak fighters with a once/rest Lay on Hands. If you're going to play all paladins, I wouldn't go with six, I might do 1-4 in order to get more XP and gain magic faster.

why not go 5/1 and maybe make the 6th character a wizard or a priest so you can larp as a bishop and his 5 goons.

I was actually thinking of doing something similar myself, except instead of paladins making a bunch of archers + whatever to support them (ie: a skald)

It's called "crippling your party" - and even on lower difficulty mode, it would reduce much of the fun that is created by using the abilities & skills of other classes.

If it were about Pillars of Eternity, six paladins can be fun, because e.g. traps, stealth and spell scrolls are class neutral in that game.

I hardly believe that, i't's more a challenging walkthrough.
The main issues with this kind of walkhroughs is that they can become boring after a while.
Anyway give us a feedback.

Yea, you could be right, as could everyone else who has pointed out the flaws with my plan, but I figured there's only one way to find out :) So far it's proving to be pretty easy, I might have accidentally made them all too stupid though because only 1 can use wands or protection scrolls xD. I mostly sacrificed Int to give the benefit to the other attributes. I've played through the normal way. Still haven't done an evil party, but I don't think it will make an awful lot of difference in IWD:EE. By all means, anyone who has played an evil party, feel free to correct me.
Evil alignment in Icewind Dale isn't so interesting, because reputation isn't a big thing in that game with regard to story, quests and NPC reaction. There's very few choices for evil/deceptive/greedy adventurers, so the benefit is negligible. And if reputation drops too low, you will suffer from shopping prices going up as in the BG games.
You do not need mages to complete the game. I made a party of 6 half orcs and it was laughably easy. Lost interest in Dorn's Deep.

How do you prioritize loot?

It all depends on the difficulty mode you've chosen.

I've done evil and good parties which are fun. Thing is I don't like playing with same class or kits. could go paladin/cavalier/inquisitor/blackguard because everyone needs their edgy friend! Then lastly a cleric/thief for the traps of course and still kind of fitting the theme running with the good boys. There's also plenty of weapons for them all so it wouldn't be that bad.
