Bonus spells for mages?
I dont know much about 2e rules, we mostly play 3.5e. Do general mages that dont specialize in anything not get bonus spells for a high intellegence? At level 1, with 18 int, i can only prepare one spell??? My cleric could prepare 3. As the game has progressed, the cleric can basically always cast twice as many spells as my mage per day. They both have 18 in their respected score, so I dont get it.

Are general mages that dont specialize really this bad in 2e rules? The guy takes ages to gain a level, and then he gets 1 spell for it. Should i just start over and make a specialist? Does this situation get any better? Im still pretty low level at this point.

I am not sure about in TRPG 2e rules, as far as all the 2e computer games, intelligence does not give extra spells at all. This is true for regular mages, specialist mages, wild mages, bards, and sorcerers.

General mages are bad, their only advantage is that all the other arcane casters have to be pure class (with the exception of gnome illusionist), while they can multi or dual class.

You can cast a total of 10 spells at level 7, 26 at level 14, 37 at level 20.

Intelligence affects the success rate at learning spells and how many spells per level your character gets in the spellbook. It doesn't affect the memorised spellslots at all, they're gained with levels only. That's why sorcerers, for instance, don't really need to go over 9 int.

Here. It's for Baldur's gate, but close enough.
