Rhino Beetle Shells and Umber Hulk Hides
I got Orric to fashion me equipment with wolf pelts, and yeti hides, but I cannot get a dialogue line about the objects in the subject above. What am I missing?

Orric does not work with those items. You need to find "Dirty Lew" in Lower Dorn's Deep. He will fashion armor/shields from those items. He is in the same area where Nym runs his shop.

Spoiler Tip: if you have a female party member with good charisma put them in the leader position and have them talk to Lew. You'll get a better price. The higher the better. He isn't called Dirty Lew for nothing. Female Mage with Friends spell can really knock the cost down.

also don't have nym improve the rhino beetle shield after lew makes it for you take it to orric because his improvement is better

Ok. Thanks for the help, both of you.

One note about the Umber Hulk Plate, it does not count as "Magic" Armor for purposes of wearing rings/cloaks of protection. There are only 2 copies of Full Plate Armor AC1 in the entire game and that's if you do the Heart of Winter expansion and not till you get to Gloomfrost where you can purchase the second from Tiernon. So if you need a third or even a fourth set (yes you can buy one from Lew and also have one made) then the Umber Hulk Plate is the next best with an AC2. I use a set on my Cleric/Thief when I don't need her Thief skills which is a lot of the time.

Does the Umber Hulk Plate count as plate armor? In which case I only have two party members that can wear it, my cavalier and fighter/thief. The rest of my party consists of a kensai, mage-diviner, druid-avenger and an archer. But that's okay. Even if its not as good as my current armors, I'd still like to build it.

Yeah, it's heavy armor. and Thief skills would be disabled.

Regular druids (not druid avengers unfortunately) should be able to use it including the shields as it is made from natural materials and not metal. In BG1 I gave my druid a set of Ankegh plate armor and she was able to tank quite well. When she reached BG2 I gave her the Shield of the Lost, which is made from hair (see its description) in addition to a set of Ankegh armor Cromwell, the dwarven smithy, made and she has the lowest AC in the Party. IIRC it is -12 or -13. The druid avenger "might" be able to use a shield made from natural materials like these shells and hides.

@Godsarm - Thanks, I suspected it was heavy armor given the nature of the umber hulk.

@philos - I recall the ankegh plate in BG1. It was awesome using it. Though don't think it was a druid.

I usually give one to Khalid or Jaheira since it is relatively light and they have more limited carrying capacity. Taerom the smithy in Beregost will make a second set for you.

In the case I mentioned above it was a run through where my MC that was a druid (standard not a one of the kits). She could wear it without any problem. With a couple of other items and her dexterity she was about AC -8 IIRC without any buff spells or potions. With the Gloves of Takkok (ogre power) she could really bust some heads. The gloves made her sling bullets deadly as strength adds damage to bullets.

On my current IWD party I have an Avenger druid myself. Awesome kit! I'll try getting some of the armor/shields from those items and see if my Avenger can equip them.

One other thing, if you play Heart of Winter and pick up one of the Rhemoraz Shells...have the Barb Shaman take you back to Kulduhar, then journey to Lower Dorn's Deep and talk to Lew with one in your inventory. He'll make you a nifty helmet. If you wait till you go back to Kulduhar at the conclusion of HOW and Luremaster, you won't have the benefit of it for nearly as long. There's no problem getting back to Lonelywood once you're done. The Shaman will be waiting for you in his Kulduhar shack.
