Any chance of IWD2 EE coming out any time soon?
Would love more IWD. IWD2 EE is an instant buy for me.

sammy got popped? Aug 21, 2023 @ 5:14pm
original game source code was lost , there is no way to make it or else it would have been made already

This question has been posed dozens of times. If you want more detail, do a search on this topic and check them out. You'll find some of them are pretty extensive. But Sammy's response is best short version. The moderators really need to post a pinned explanation as it seems to pop up every few weeks.
Without repeating what I've posted in older topics about the allegedly "lost sources", just this:

The original IWD2 at GOG was still working a few years ago. I consider the first game better, btw.

Would be cool to see them re-release ToEE.

Lost source code isn't really an impediment if they have the game discs, which I'm sure they do. It IS more work than what they're accustomed to though.

Personally, although I think Beamdog has done an excellent job with the EEs, I also don't mind playing the original on GoG.

Uh, please, that isn't true. "Lost source code" doesn't only refer to programming language source files but is also about data source files. While one can decompile or reverse engineer the code source files (which, btw, may be commented poorly/badly or not at all in their original form), and it would be massive work to make sense of it all, adding comments and recreating API documentation, you cannot do the same with data. Preprocessed audio files and prerendered graphics animations, for example, have suffered from data loss. It becomes apparant with MP3 encoded voice-over or music already in the enhanced editions. Converting back to WAV would not lead to the original audio source files in full quality.

Trying to reverse engineer the full Icewind Dale 2 game in binary form would not be fun and would not be a worthwhile goal either.

That "almost there" was 3 years ago.. and the thread seems be just full of ppl eager to beta test.. any clue where it is now?

Source code is not the same. They would need to reverse engineer whole thing.

Whenever its easiest beamdog will just combine the mods into a nice package, act like they did it and add some 'chievements, winning over the steam collective!

Be patient :^)

No. Even trying to fix minor bugs in binary-only code would be a nightmare, if you cannot recompile source code.
