If you don't like turn-based combat, avoid it. That's the core of it - faithful recreation of table top roll dice turn based rules. Lacks charm, a pain to restart, and somehow a bit tiring.
I installed IWD at the same time. And despite all the drawbacks and the age, it somehow feels....better
Icewind Dale = D&D 2E (mostly) + realtime with pause
Two very different games that I really enjoyd playing.
Prefer tb combat nowadays, and really do like Solasta's combat more...however I hit a party stash bug with Solasta :/
Keep meaning to buy ToEE since it's usually $4 or 5 on sale
Temple of Elemental Evil by Trokia is a great game. In my opinion its the best use of 3rd Edition rules ever used in a computer game. The story and questing are a bit light, but the actual dungeon crawling and gameplay are top tier.
Make sure you download and install the Circle of Eight modpack. It makes the game run stable on modern versions of Windows, gives you widescreen rez options, and fixes a ton of bugs.
I remember when torment Tides of Numenera released, alot of People complained because it was TB.
Then Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire came and everyone complained because it was Real Time with Pause,so they patched a TB Mode in.
And now in alot of Videos People complain because the Old Infinity Games are Real Time with Pause, thats kinda Crazy ^^
In the end it comes down to ones own Taste, but the 2 cases above especially brought it more into my Radar.
I always prefered Real Time with Pause tho.Thats why i couldnt get into the New Divinity Games (And the Artstyle)
Solasta fell also kind of under my Radar. But i have an eye on Realms Beyond: Ashes of the Fallen
RTwP based implementations offer the superior choices, especially concurrent movement/actions. Fans of TB combat typically refuse to accept that when combat is paused, they get infinite time to examine the battle field and to give commands to any character.
Btw, I'm waiting for Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness, which will feature RTwP.
