Solo monk: cheap way to beat HoW's final boss

I've just beaten the expansion with a solo monk after giving up on the game for months; the final boss in the expansion was by far the most difficult enemy in the game, at least if you've been mad enough to try a solo monk run. She hits hard and in ways that mostly bypass monk's resistances and saving throws. After a couple tries, I found a way that only requires high "Hide in Shadows" skill and some emphasis on magic resistance in your inventory if possible (it helps protect you against damage from the whirls).

Wait until she summons a couple of those whirls ("Wing Buffet" is what they were called in the damage reports, I think), hide in shadows and lure those whirls over to the soul gem on the left. Seems to be about 50/50 if the barrier lets through about 10 dmg from those whirls, then you'll have to run to the right to prevent enemies from boxing you in. Rinse and repeat until the gem is broken, then quickly kill one of the minions that are bound to block your way during the cutscene and run for the open door.

Do you guys know any other cheap ways to beat bosses in IWD?
