Aircraft on patrol drift way out of course
please see the screenshot below. The f14's in the top left are on an CAP patrol in the small zone between my base and the enemy base. However upon takeoff they flight straight out of the map. Any idea what I do wrong?

Under the mission options are have you got "Investigate contacts outside the mission area" checked? If so that will cause them to fly off course if contacts are detected.

I suggest checking that and also (un)checking "Investigate contacts within weapon range" if you want them to stay in the patrol zone. You can also create a prosecution zone and they will only prosecute in that area.

I find that having 'investigate contacts within weapons range" is very useful for CAP, but otherwise yes I uncheck both in most circumstances. With ASW helicopters I don't mind if htey fly off a bit, since their slow speed means I can generally catch an error before it is fatal.

Thank you for your responses, and I will check this out. However, to be honest, I doubt this is the problem. Since I’m playing the first tutorial mission. At that far to the north are or were never any possible targets to investigate/engage. They fly straight out of the map. I also had this problem a couple of minutes earlier with other aircraft that just left the patrol zone and went very far out before returning to the patrol zone.

I’ll try to see if unchecking the options you provided gives better results and keep you updated in this topic.

Thanks

If this problem persists and there are no contacts/possible contacts that your units may be investigating please supply us with a save of it happening.

Can you open the Mission Editor and click "F14 Patrol" once and take a screenshot? I don't even think they are on their mission due to them being at 6,000 feet.

Ok, I can reproduce it easily now... It looks like a bug to me. To reproduce it just create a AAW patrol. All planes will follow and stay in the patrol zone. BUT, as soon as you press F3 with a single aircraft selected, then ALL my planes(even the unselected) will follow their current heading and drift out of the patrol zone

I just had this bug on the first scenario for Chains of War today. I sent a 737 Wedgetail on an AEW support mission and it wandered to the northwest and almost right into the range of an SA-2 site in North Korea, I have no idea why it was doing that.
