"with the current set up at level 178 its not possible to beat uneathly let alone abyss."
What's the ring you use and what level is it? Unearthly solo with normal setups should be very doable, especially with a decent Ring pick that's at least lvl 50 and up. Abyss is ball-breaking hard regardless of what you use in solo/UV/no challenge.
"what im also wondering that is if you can even beat the modes on the default game mode Ultra Violence and if the rewards are set differently over saying playing on arcade style where its less of a rate but does that make it less of a value too?"
Short answer, yes. It is winnable. Solo/UV with no cheese is possible - but the hardest path of them all compared to multiplayer farming or Hot Mode +/- Quad Damage challenge. The norm for beating Abyss the first 10+ times (which are also the hardest attempts) is and will likely always be Quad Damage ( +/- Armor Protection + SMP leaning gear.)
Yes, rewards are different on AS compared to UV, same for CH. Generally speaking, CH gives increased Karma payouts and pumps out Wanderers fasters on Abyss. AS halves Demon Chest spawn chance (not card chances though) and affects Karma payout + amount of trinkets. The upsides are arguably much better than the downsides if you ask me. Ruby drop chances are affected on CH aswell as on AS for pacing reasons. Lastly, since it's relevant enough, Heavy Weapons reduces the Demon Chest spawn rate by 33% of the base value. AS allows for fast games and for hilarious speedrunning, but can mess things up if you stick around or if you play Abyss since the requirement for monsters present is much higher. #ArcadeGang
i do not play on quad damage i play with smp only as tbh that is the best gun in the game. sure each gun has its own power of usefulness the alt fire does insane damage to fights that are 1v1 like with rotten clowns witches faceless you have enough damage behind it and it gets the job done.
In Quad, SMP is king because of the laser accurate first shots and the damage being so high that it annihilates 70% of the enemy variants within 3 seconds.
SMP is a great gun. Best gun? Not really, but in UNLOVED, it all comes down to circumstances. Your trinkets, combat context, etc. The Shotgun arguably suffer most end-game due to being reliant on reload speed and high ammo retaining to keep up. Even with over 3000% trinket damage (and crit mods) it will still require a far more finessed player to use well on its own than someone running any Pistol mod. Thankfully, UNLOVED doesn't make you pick. You're very incentivized to pick up more than one gun, and you should, because more often than not, you need the different ammo pools to effectively win.
About best gun.. There's a reason Magnum was nerfed and that's because Pistol used to be vastly better for damage in endgame stage than SMP and Shotgun. SMP is still the best trash clearing weapon, thanks to having 40 bullets, but one can opt for Tactical Kit as a great replacement if one wants. SMP has that sweet *triple shot* alt-fire and it *can* crit, though at a much lesser crit rate and less impressive critical damage than a Pistol. (200% vs. 250% damage on crits)

Kinda skimming over the rest since it's mostly about Abyss. There's plenty of good opinions on what should be done with Abyss, some of which is in the forum threads already which you can read up on if you want, but it's a gimmicky design challenge and one that likely won't change since Blue has moved on from the game.
I'll say that Abyss is absolutely not perfect, despite the changes in like 2017-2019, but it's far less horrendous now than it was on launch. The stats were something like double Wanderer health, +25% demon speed chance and about 33% more health on monsters. It was hell. You know what is crazy? Beating Abyss below level 20. It has been done multiple times! It doesn't really make any point about how balanced the game is, rather that anything is possible if you try hard enough. Here, proof by the one and only, Useless NPC.

so im not sure how to "savescum" plus i dont want to do that ive worked on getting it legit and its staying that way so if i get lucky then thats what im gonna have to hope for.
So the game is heavy on RNG inside and out i have beaten Unearthly at my current set up i have 2 wins currently but yes death is often. the first time i just ran start to finish speedrun didnt get much for that fair enough second time i did get good rolls with totems had a DC on me using my SMP only focus gear. i used the Panda of Awesomeness and lucked out having the vampire teeth making that life steal save the run at the end there. SMP Elite Silencer Machine Pistol Hollow Point Ammo and the Foggy Specter Ring currently at level 76 dealing 129% more damage and like a 12ish% armor protecting with a 2.2% double damage chance hit per shot. working on that ring the most i do have others.
I do understand the value of having a different set of the guns that was just my own opinion of the smp being the best its just also in terms of the play style, but i didnt know the different modes actually change up the random chance of the gear you can get. guess im gonna have to try more of UV over AS. im sure the hot mode then would be like the same rate like AS is since you are alternating the game play completely.
Completely understandable, I think the game is a lot about overcoming its unfairly challenging hatred for you as a player in general, both in theme and design. There's a *lot* of RNG, most of those dies are against you - but roguelites be like that sometimes~ I'll link this guide if you end up feeling Abyss is the final straw because that's where I reached my limit. Demon Chests, I can handle, but 1.0 Abyss and the ever-so-horrendous grind of getting any Rank 4 to beat R3L7 stats is downright piss.

Ring good, it has near similar damage as the Onyx Spectre variant, which is only upping crit rate while severely downtuning the AP (and this means you'd get something like ~25% crit rate, fully leveled, at absolute max).
I'd argue Foggy Spectre among the most used and favored for Quad Damage, since Armor Protection is a stat of top importance in Abyss and SMP damage is very helpful. Just make sure to note the max limit of Armor Protection; it is ~65% with trinkets. Wearing a lvl 200 Onyx Ring would put you at 56,5%. The base armor protection is 25%.
However, Totems does not count to this and can bring it up to a max of about ~90%.
I understand you on the different set on guns. The SMP is great, especially with a Silencer, since it helps the rare 'Accuracy' stat. Something you can only get from specific Heister gloves and rolling the right weapon mods.. so RNG.
Yeah, AS halves chances and Heavy Weapons is the only challenge to affect DC chances since it's deemed as a kind of easy mode. UV, CH and Hot Mode all retain the DC spawn rate. I'm sure you already know too that room size (low, medium, large, huge) all affect it too.
Thank you for the formatting, reading got a lot easier for me!
Good luck in your abyssal, long journey.
That's a problem though, as you are missing out on Railgun and Nailgun which can both give you the upper edge. It's OK to only use one starter weapon, it's up to your playstyle, but you should definitely be using the heavy weapons as well. You don't need to take all the heavy ammo on the map, just what you need in case of emergency - Railgun saves lives!
