Obviously shame on you, developers for having such trivial bug in the first place and even more for pissing on the players and not fixing it.
I suggest everyone to go and leave a negative review mentioning play-preventing crashes, maybe if new sells dry up due to this there will be some action.
Update
Ive started playing it through the desktop shortcut as opposed through steam and so far it hasnt frozen once. It crashed once but I can cope with that compared to how it was before
Do you run the game in some earlier Windows mode?

It's a patch that changes flags in old exe files to be able to use 4GB instead of 2GB memory. It doesn't fix the memory leak in the game, but it doubles the memory the game can waste, and thereby also doubles the time before the game crashes.
