Wow! Have the developers abandoned the game?
I've been watching(and thinking to buy) it since its first appearance on Steam and learning that about developers made me sad.

Well I mean the game is finished. It has been out of early access for quiet a while and it received quiet a bit updates after early access. To be fair, they can't support the game forever as apparently it didn't sell very well. They may have rushed it a bit into the finished state. But it's not like we are talking about an early access game being abandoned. You could say Life is Strange is an abandoned game, well because it is....finished already.

But of course that doesn't change the fact, that Cosmonautica is a bit lackluster and had potential to be something much better. It's still quiet a bit of fun for a while though.

What is disheartening is when developers simply stop communicating and disappear, leaving us hanging and making it look like maybe something tragic happened. Regardless of the commercial success of the project, how can anyone spend years creating something and then just walk away?

Rokzon (developer tag) spoke on thread about story characters 14 hours ago. So they are here but unless updates are a pet project or being done as a kindness I doubt much will change. About the game though. I have found that as I play the game for longer times the visuals like the shower curtan and turrets get misplaced and the game gets more unstable. Also my older in terms or game time games have difficulty viewing the finances chart page. But these are minor issues and though annoying the game does auto save so you are at worst out a fight. In general if you like people management games this is good. But it gets very easy after you research. In the late game I could stay, in space, without docking indefinently but this is when ship combat is best. Good fights are end game fun. So you get a reward and goal in the end to go out and fight.

Yes, they specifically stated in the latest news post that they are working on another game.

Its finished. Its just not very good.

Its okaaaay, but its not brilliant and theres lots of aspects that disapoint simply by potential.
And the early game is pretty rough sometimes, which makes it tedious. Games shouldn't be tedious.

I am impressed with it so far. My only real complaint is that it's prone to crashing.

Yes, the early game is narrow due to random events that can ruin you out of the gate if not playing extremely conservatively, but the presentation is nice and it's a very playable naval-style merchant simulator once you're going.

Late game, it does seem pretty pointless, with an infinite galaxy map that doesn't really offer anything new, but I think it will still be amusing to jump in and pick fights with pirates and such. Better that than having a graphic or video thrown in your face telling you the game is just over after all the time spent building up funds to buy the best ship and train a competent crew.

For the price, I've seen developers offer much less than this.

Hey there. I really don't want to heat up the abandon-discussion. In our view, we have finished Cosmonautica with the content we have promised. We know, there would have been headroom for other features or modding, and we're sorry to hear that some players still experience buggyness. However, there are technical and organizational reasons why we can't continue to work on Cosmonautica, and we tried to talk about that as open as possible.

We're sorry people feel the game has been abandoned and we can't force anybody to take our perspective as to why we had to decide the way we did. We will try to be here for you on the forums as regularly as possible and answer your questions. That's all we can do for now. And we hope some of you can understand this situation.

WOW...thats a spike to the heart mate. And you expect to carry this customer base to another game? Wishful thinking.

Finished cosmonautica? BWAHAHHAAHA, barely any of the mentioned features every made it in to the game, and you guys clearly stated you went to work on another game instead. Way to look even worse then you already did

I for one will not be carried.

I don't expect they are too worried about pulling the Cosmonautica audience in, since they appear to be working on a sequel to their previous action arcade game, aimed at a very different (and probably much less persnickety) kind of gamer.

To me, it doesn't look like nearly as fun a game to work on, but no doubt it will sell better.

By contrast, I think of the dev team at Akella, building on a similar foundation (starting with Sea Dogs and Age of Sail II) for sixteen+ years (closer to twenty now counting initial development). They've ultimately created a very deep simulator that is probably a labor of love, but outside the bump they got from a Disney Pirates of the Carribbean license they've been catering to a very niche audience.

This game is good. it is a small publisher that created an enjoyable game with a unique style. Which is rare in the world today. They did put their fingers into too many pots and this is their one sin. The management and trade work. The combat was a bit off. This was because how it displayed. If you ere in a trade ship it looked like orders did nothing. But I got a cruiser style ship and saw how battle was suppose to look. It is better. Not great but better. The only fault is combat is obviously for mobile games. Those of us who have worked know that games are made for money. Thus we do not fault you for hunting money elsewhere. People new to small publishers will be angry you are not tripple A. Go figure. But hopefully your next game will be better and mission creepe will focus on story and fun game play. However a second version of this game a part 2 would be nice and start with a mod system. That way the community will develope much of it for free first. Basiocally sell the tools to make the game and let the community make the gems :)
That was a partial joke but also looking at the posts the most outspoken people seem to want to make the game better.

This is why you read reviews, folks.
