Best we could hope for is a remaster one day, but even that seems like a pipe dream. Darkstone is a small game with a cult following. It was originally sold on PSone for $10, if I remember correctly. I think we have better hope that one of use might make a spiritual successor, but I think this is sadly a game that will just live in the minds and hearts of those who loved it.
But per you controls question, I play on Steam Deck and Steam Input is your friend. I should have a controller scheme available for download on Deck and it could probably be adapted to controllers, but I do lean pretty heavy on the Deck's touch pads.
Also, I don't know why but I find the click to attack feature so annoying in this game. The cursor seems to click on literally everything but what I am actually trying to click on and it makes large scale fights a pain.
