How to figure out which parts to replace?
I know how to figure out the broken parts. My issue is, when i have a big job with a lot to take apart, I remove everything before reassymbling with good parts. However, in the cases of Brake pads, cam shaft bearings, ect, I wont always remember which was the bad one. So then I have to play swap the new part around until I place it on teh correct one that needed the part swap.

Is there anyway to label the part that was actually broken, IE, front right brake pad?

I agree. For the rockers and push rods etc I just got them all new, bugger trying to remeber each individual one, or checking the order every time I placed a part. I am not aware of anyway to distinguish the actual part required.

And also, I do not know if it matters. Do we loose out doing this. What I mean to say is if one front brake needs to be replaced, and we replace both front brakes, are we worse off?

I believe the devs are working on something to help highlight which exact part needed replacement. What I discovered in the meanwhile, though, was when you go to install a part, in the lower left corner of the screen it will show you the condition of the last part that was attached at that spot. Example: I disassemble the timing chain on an 8 cylinder OHV engine, and one of the Idler Bs is bad. When attaching the Idler Bs back on (before bolting them fully) it will show in the bottom left the condition of the last Idler B attached at a particular spot. If you go to put a less than ideal part on, and you see it last had a red condition, back out and put a good part on it.

Note: this only works once; even if you don't finish placing the new part, it overwrites it and next time it will show you the last part you tried to put on. So if you're putting a junk part where a broken part was, back out and put a new part on it right away before you forget.

I did some testing to answer this very thing. You only get money for parts that needed replacing. If you have to replace 2 pistons, and you replace all 4, you only get money for the two that were required to finish the job.

I feel like the completion bonuses more than make up for the few extra dollars I spend on similar parts so I don't mix them up. The Suggestions thread above shows the devs are considering making it so parts are required to be replaced in groups (all brake pads, spark plugs, that sort of thing I'd imagine).

Oh man If this is true than this will make it so much easier. It obviously needs to be more prominent, or stand out more in some way. Cheers

Naa, I just checked, it shows me the part, but not the original condition.

Ususally I do, but if you have to replace the engine block, there is not much you can do.

I recommend doing one area of the car at a time. I also keep a bunch of brake rotors, pads, bushings, tie rod ends, sway bar links, etc, in my inventory so I don't have to go to the pc all the time and order parts. It also helps if you look at the condition of the part before you remove it (or right after). Doing that and sticking to one area at a time will save you from having to swap parts until you get them in the right place.

I understand, and agree with you. But what are you going to do, as i found out, when you have a 40% job, Only replace parts < 40% (in which you have to replace the engine block). Dunno if that is supposed to be half the challenge, but it is annoying, and takes away from the 'fun' aspect of the game, well at least for me.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question.

The % a job calls for doesn't mean the ones you're replacing. It means the ones they're being relaced with. It only matter when replacing parts. Like using used parts in your inventory instead of buying new ones. Or repairing parts at the work bench to be reinstalled on the car. If the part is above 40% (as per your example) it can be used fas a replacment.

If a job calls for 40% or greater that's only used when trying to decide which parts to put back on the car. Otherwise I replace red parts(which are bad) with new parts and put orange or better back in place where they came from. It's best to do a full inspection before you begin so you know what's bad. If you do that they will show up on the repair list once inspected but you'll have to remember where the bad ones are located..

If you replacing parts to a 40% standard, it also restricts what you are taking off the car, as it has to be under 40%. You do not need to replace a part that is at 41%.
