Apologies for the ultra belated reply. We are going back through Steam discussions to make sure we don't miss anyone.
If you are still having these crashes, I think it would be helpful if we can acquire a Crash Dump from you. Normally, when your game crashes, it sends us a crash dump, however there is no way for us to tell who sent the crash dump, therefore, we would request that you follow these steps to provide one for us:
Please e-mail us at support@compulsiongames.com with the following information:.
- To help us troubleshoot the issue, could you perform the following:
1 - Rick-click We Happy Few in your Steam library
2 - Goto: Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files
3 - Browse to: \Engine\Binaries\Win64
4 - Look for the file: CrashReportClient.exe
5 - Rename it (e.g: CrashReportClient BACKUP.exe)
6 - Start the game and trigger the crash
7 - Once the game has crashed at least once, press: Windows + R
8 - Paste: \Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\My Games
9 - Press enter
10 - Select 'We Happy Few'
11 - Right Click on 'We Happy Few' and select 'Send to' > 'Compressed (Zipped) folder'
12 - Attach We Happy Few.zip to email
This will disable the automatic crash reporter and allow crash dumps to be generated directly on your PC. With this we'll be able to identify the specific crash you're experiencing.
- If possible, sending us your PC Specifications would also be helpful:
1 - Press Windows + R
2 - Paste: dxdiag
3 - Press enter
4 - Select ‘Save All Information…’
5 - Attach dxdiag.txt to email
If you want to re-enable automatic crash reports in the future, simply change the file back to it's original name (CrashReportClient.exe).

As to your saving issues. We definitely don't communicate how the save system works very well. The game will save the World State and Character States separately. Furthermore, you will always spawn in a semi-random location (Bench, Safe House) unless you are inside of a Quest Area.
Many areas in the game will not let you save manually. In these locations there are checkpoints designed to save your progress, usually after completing an objective. In these instances, you will be respawned in a manually placed (fixed) location within the Quest area.
To determine whether your game saved correctly, complete an objective / quest and keep track of the items you've acquired. Once you've progressed some, save the game and reload. At this point you may check your inventory to make sure things are as they were when you saved. You can also check your Quest Log as well. If one, or both of these have failed to retain any of the changes, then we may have a save issue on our hands.

When it comes to the sound balancing, it is impossible to cater to all configurations or tastes. Generally speaking we tried to make sure things were balanced, and that dialog was clearly heard when necessary. You would be the only case that I am aware of where certain sounds were downright unpleasant to hear or far too loud. Fortunately, it seems that you were able to balance things to your tastes using the Options Menu.

Thanks for taking the time to detail the issues and concerns you have noticed with our game. Feel free to follow up with us about any concern you might have in an e-mail thread (info provided above)
