Early access games are usually cheaper than they would at release, and some people just really like being able to "beta test" and provide feedback.
Like a dev said, picture it like a roundtable. The map generator randomly pics items from that table and while all the quests are the same, the map will be different every time, giving a different playthrough. Also just because the game is linear doesn't mean that playability is ruined, look at skyrim, a game that lived on for SEVERAL years with mods, and still to this day is a joy to play vanilla. And yes, you CAN change the outcome of the game, we are already getting the devs to do balance changes and add in features. That's not a myth, don't use other games as an example for this as kickstarter backers shaped the game to where it is, and the masses will shape it as well.
Fair enough then, but still.
Sorry for getting offtrack. Why I like this game. Procedural generation, interesting atmosphere.
Those saying this is a Bioshock wannabe? Obviously haven't seen gameplay. And yes, people have said this. Surprisingly.
- Curiosity what the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is about, trailers did a pisspoor job at explaining
- Liked the theme and setting, the whole artstyle is superb
- It felt into the "trustworthy" kickstarter category (TB and Jim Sterling vouch for the devs)
- I had 30 bucks just lying around
- In case the game turns out good, EA is 10 bucks cheaper than the final version. yay.
Presumably because they want to. Seems to be the most obvious explanation to me.
