I can only say pre-alpha versions are greatly different, so another kind of We Happy Few if we can call like that. Beware of glitches though.
https://archive.org/details/we-happy-few-build-collection-1
That is a collection of every major pre alpha update starting with the august 2015 gamescom version.
The 21735/22249 builds are the April 2016 Pax Pre-Alpha demo versions. (obviously the 22249 version is the hotfixed version) These builds where 3 months prior to EA but still a big difference.
The 17956 build (pre alpha build 12) is the March 2016 update. 1 month before the major Pax 2016 overhaul and is the last version with the very loose "oldschool" world generation style. It used to be on a branch you could revert back into when the pax 2016 demo came out. But it was removed once Early Access launched in July 2016
The 14473 build is the December 2015 Pre-Alpha (a.k.a Pre alpha build 10)
The 11935 build (Pre alpha build 8) is the September 2015 build 1 month after the gamescom version. It is also in a .rar format so you will need winrar to extract this one.
The 11164/11219 are the gamescom builds from August 2015 witch at this point are the oldest builds that exist on the web. (A.k.a Update 6.3)
The June 2015 and May 2015 builds are still missing and most likely will never be found. But you can still thank me for this.
You can find the changelogs for all the pre alpha builds here https://wehappyfew-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Update_notes
Graphically speaking it's lower quality, so lower spec pcs should be able to run well the game (at least with my previous laptop it seemed so minus some framedrop here and there), because of course it's about early versions of WHF.
As for missions, to be honest I didn't pay them attention very much besides "Escape Wellington Wells", but there are few exclusive places you can visit there, some of which are otherwise inaccessible in the actual game unless with cheats (like the apartment above Reg Cutty's store, for example, NOT the one during that side mission though, and the pawn show being greatly different).
But overall pre-alpha versions have barely content in comparison with the actual game, earlier versions were said to be more difficult in gameplay as dying was easier.
Might suggest watching some pre-alpha gameplay for a better judgement.
Hybrid Panda also made a video about pre-alpha versions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydtOS-BBJlQ
Is there any install instructions, having trouble running any version
Try closing down Steam and run the executable from the game files under C://user/[folder the game got extracted]/We Happy Few Pre Alpha Build []\GlimpseGame\Binaries\Win64.
The game is drm-free, but Steam may detect it if you have Steam open and don't own the game in your library.
