Faraday and the Scavenger Extractor

HELP! I met with Faraday .. I got her bucket of Motelin and she gave me the scavenger extractor to fetch some mechanical bits. I went to the first car in the yard out by her house and it took about 10 times with the extractor to cue the video and collect the parts.

I then ran to the car by the treehouse, killed everyone in sight and tried the extractor perhaps 15 times. I see a hole open up in the hood and then it vanishes and its a solid hood again. I dont get the mechanical bits and the quest doesnt complete.

I then ran to the one in Lud Holme thinking they had to be done in order. Find the car next to the train station and once again ..20 times with the extractor, lots of noise. I dont let off the button, I see the hole open up in the hood and then he steps back and the hole closes. No mechanical bits. Dont know what I am doing wrong and any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok .. Guess I have to stop playing until i get some clues. Here is what I tried. I thought maybe I didnt have enough stamina to turn the handle for the duration that I needed in order to use the scavenger extractor so I ate something which increased stamina and .. no good. I can try it on the car it indicates near Lud Holme station a dozen times and it doesnt work.

SO I thought .. maybe it needs power cells .. so I went and filled up 5 power cells and tried on that same car and the one by the tree house and still it stops before it has completed and you see a hole and then it changes to a solid hood with no hole and no mechanical bits.

I went to other areas of the map and treid it on half dozen cars .. no hole. I tired standing on the car, crouching and standing in front. I get the screen prompt but no hole. I am stuck.

I have watched Youtube videos and have read a bunch of walk throughs and even cruised reddit but I cant find anyone that doesnt just walk up to the car and make a hole. I cant make a hole. I am fine with some sort of cheat or work around that will let me complete the mission so I can move on. Game has been fun until now.

Hi if you are doing the same thing that I was you are letting go of the E key too soon.
You have to keep holding it down after it looks like you are done.

I saw him lifting the extractor off of the car and let go of the key, and suddenly he hadn't done it again.

Finally I held the key passed what seem like more than enough and it worked every time.

Nothing else, you just have to have the extractor.
