Crafting recipes - bandages and others

Where do you find basic crafting recipes? I only have a few recipes and I've got the whole first map explored (about to enter the Parade). I don't even have a recipe for bandages (only dirty bandages). Where's the best place to look for some recipes?

I only have 2 side quests remaining on the map and those are related to bees, can't do them yet because I don't have a bee suit. I don't think I've missed any items on benches, but I might have to look again.

In the garden district, the safe houses and many of the robbable 'ruined' houses (as opposed to 'abandoned' ones) also have them. In houses, some of them have either a workbench on the first floor by the back door, or a chemistry table on the third floor. Those often have recipes on them, but not always.

If you go up really close to Garden District houses, you can see which ones on the map also have benches/tables, otherwise the map only shows that there's a house there. So, if you want to only focus on the bench/table ones instead of searching each house for them, just go up near to any house that appears on the map, and then check the map again to see if there's now also a symbol.

There's also a couple recipes that you get just for doing certain things, like when you enter the Village as Arthur (after an initial quest, but just before freely walking around).

The Village houses never seem to have any recipes, but some special buildings that are part of quests have workbenches and chemistry tables, which often have recipes.

Most recipes you'll get are random. One playthrough, I didn't get any padded suit at all as Arthur.

Also, I noticed that the Garden District houses with 3rd floor chemistry sets, also usually had an alarmed 2nd floor bathroom with a chest and/or safe. Plus, those ones usually had an insane number of people show up when I tripped that alarm. Either make sure you have great weapons on you, or quickly hide under a nearby bed for a while, or just grab the 3rd floor chemistry table recipes and ignore the bathroom.

Yeah I've got a lot of recipes since (including bandages). Been doing tons of exploring. For the padded suit, check the sign in front of the Hive quest. Arthur will get the idea for the padded suit and automatically know how to craft one.
