What does clutch do?

I've mapped my clutch key but there doesn't seem to be any effect (ex. clutch kicking) when I press it. What does it do in-game?

Clutch seems broken to me. No function whatsoever. Or rather the key rebinding seems to be fundamentally broken. Unbound Handbrake from Space, bound clutch to Space, game still triggers Handbrake with Space....

Aha: Did it by using a key mapper tool for mapping the ALT key (hidden clutch binding) to my desired controller button. In my case I used JoyToKey http://joytokey.net/en/download

Hey, Thanks for posting this, I didn't know the game had a clutch button at all!!!!
Yes, Yes it does change the gameplay, a lot.
With steam controller I just bound the right paddle to keyboard ALT and it works great. So much more flexibility to maneuver the cars as you please versus having to use the handbrake/brake only in those situations.

So clutch is finally back, but you need to use a third party program to assign it to controller? That really sucks.
