The strange thing is, that the game only recognise the part with "Press any button". It seems that the game is able to detect the controller, but the mapping is probably totally wrong, since beyond the "Press any button", no other button is recognized in game anymore.
To my humble system, it's a Debian testing with 4.18.0-3 Kernel, no additional drivers, only native HID.
Games like Rocket League, Momodora or Sky Force works well with the controller, even over Bluetooth.
It might be an idea to allow custom mapping of the controller, because I mainly bought the game with the gradual control of direction and acceleration of my XBox One controller in mind. So until the controller works, I won't play the game (sadly).
Update, after trying the linux beta, as suggested somewhere else, the same problem, no recognition of controller input except for the "Press any button"
After confirming that my controllers work just fine in other games but refused to work on Absolute Drift specifically, I enabled Proton to use the Windows version of the game. And just like that it works.
Same details as above, "Press any button" dialogue worked but nothing else. Multiple X360 and X1 controllers tried, all the same results. Controller worked just fine in Terraria.
